There is only a very few players I would consider trading tanev for and unless players like top line forwards or top pairing defensemen become available... I'm gonna go out on a whim and say he's staying....

Tanev is a stud

Feminism will be outlawed. Mostly because it's a backwards idiotic viewpoint that doesn't serve any real progressive purpose.

If Tanev had offense in his game he would win the Norris (at some point in his carreer). He is THAT good. Very few players in the NHL can win the puck along the boards as efficiently and effortlessly, all while making great little passes into space for a teammate to pick up, as Tanev consistently does. He is Lidstrom like in his own zone.

Lets ask this a different way?

What would Tanev get if he went to arbitration?

I'm guessing $1.75 or $2 mill? Many solid depth defenders get $3 or $4 mill, but thats not comparable, those would be vets past their ELC who have both more leverage and stats behind them. But arbitration is for one or 2 years (someone welcome to clarify) and a ballpark guess (if someone else wants to load real comparable s?).

So we offer 3 years at $2 mill, pay at the high side but get an extra year or so; much like with Hansen! And Hansen still turned a bargain!

I would be shocked if he wasn't a memeber of the Canucks next season given that he is an RFA.... However, the process could get pretty ugly if Tanev gets greedy and goes to arbitration. I would hope that he will re-sign for 3 yrs at $1.5 M per

I'd give him a 3 year at 2M offer, see if he can step up his offense a bit in that time and keep his D play consistent. After that, re-evaluate where he's at as a player.

If he was the type of guy to put up points more often, especially if he had a really big slapshot, I could see him going for more. I think he's going to keep improving.. Also, he has a sweet wrister.

My dream would be 3 years at 2.5 per year. Team pays more than what he's worth for a pretty good length. By the end of the deal, it should be a total steal.

That sounds perfect

He's an RFA why would anyone think he is going anywhere? Unless there is a disgusting offersheet or a ridonkulous overpayment in a trade Tanev will sign his next contract with the Canucks no doubt.

I'd rather re-sign him before any other teams get a chance to throw in a crazy offer-sheet.

Trade Tanev for Iginla. The future is now. Get it done, Gillis.

2 years 2 million per, 2.5 max. Considering he doesn't bring much offence or physicality, he shouldn't demand anything upward of 3 million.

I think we'd be have to be crazy to let him go. He's a steady bottom six guy who rarely makes mistakes, that's valuable. He's still young too, so who knows how he could develop.

he wont cost all that much on this next contract.... he doesnt have the offensive numbers to support the big $$, and is to early in his contract to get the veteran shut down D like numbers. if he's lucky, he'll scratch 2 million.

Sign Tanev on a long term contract. It isn't often you come across a hometown guy with the incredibly high hockey IQ that Chris Tanev possesses, not to mention how calm he is in high pressure situations (playoff performer, anyone?). I can definitely see Tanev becoming an assistant captain, if not our captain, when the Sedin era is over.

I wouldn't give him more than 2m. He's pretty bad, fail passes, tiny body, average speed. Honestly I must be watching a totally different game cuz i think hes terrible w/o ballard bailing him out on every play

bit of a derail, but ok ....

I think Higgins is traded at the deadline (also think he's being showcased with Sedins right now), Lapierre let go to free agency, and Raymond re-signed.

As for Tanev >> 3 years @ 1.9

Yes he will because, unlike the rest of the Canucks' defensemen, he'll come cheap and he'll always be somewhat cheap, barring some totally unforseen offensive outburst. Steady defensemen like Tanev that don't really produce a lot of offense are such valuable commodities because you're not having to pay for the offense and yet you're still getting a great player.

Willie Mitchell and Rob Scuderi are some of the better defensive defensemen in the league and they make $3.5M and $3.4M respectively.

Sign him on a bridge contract for 2-3 years. Then lock him up long term on a big contract.
