Warning: 70% of you will not finish this because it is far far too long. I tried to keep it short but there was just too much to talk about. Once you start talking about Jiri Slegr, it's tough to stop!

But for those of you stuck at work or school and need a bit of a read, I went over the entire Canucks trade deadline activity history, so if you want to travel down memory lane, here's your chance!

Seriously, it's really long, I'm sorry.

This year will be a non event, MG has boxed himself in by holding Luongo for so long. He now has very little Cap space to maneuver

I remember Eric Weinrich retiring right after that season and asking myself why Nonis was still in charge.

I TOLD YOU I’D NEVER FORGET, DENIS.

But seriously, pretty good. Man, Nonis and Burke tried while they were here (actually drafting a few good players that now make up the core of our team) but they were horrible at the deadline.

What was it in 2006, two 2nd rounders, a 3rd and a 4th (plus a conditional 7th) to get us nowhere? That resulted in Carney and Weinrich? But I guess it got us Mika Noronen, and it was almost worth it just to be able to say his name.

Man, I miss deals like 1991.

Sweet read. I was actually choked when they traded Dan Quinn; he was something of a Spezza of his time. Put up some great numbers but never became a real leader.

Craig Janney if I remember correctly was part of the Petr Nedved deal. Originally we had asked for Brendan Shanahan but he did not want to come to Vancouver.

2006 was really bad. We traded away 2 second rounders? Milan Lucic was picked in the last half of the second round. He could have been a Canuck!

Probably still resents that fact, especially now that he's in a position of "power".

People who label others as bandwagoners, people who tell other people "how" to cheer for their team, "how" they should act or what they should wear to "support" their team, people who only want to hear positive thoughts and don't want to read about how the team can do better - these are people who are insecure and uncomfortable within their own skin.

I'll support my team the way I choose, thank you very much. You can choose to support your team the way you want to, and I won't judge you on it as long as you don't try to force your beliefs on me. I'll also be quick to point out where I think the team can do better, because identifying that there is a problem is the first step to fixing it; denying or ignoring a problem won't solve anything.

Go Canucks Go.

That certainly seems like it was the case!

After looking at the totality of the Canucks deadline dealings maybe its better to do nothing at all LOL

Actually Janney was awarded to the Canucks when the Blues signed Nedved. He wouldn't report, so we traded him back for Brown, and co.

Yeah, we had one from the Islanders (the 38th overall which went to Anaheim) and our own (the 46th overall which went to Buffalo). Of the next 20 players drafted, we would have had the option of names like Nodl, Emmerton, Kulemin, Enroth, Petry, Matthias, Lucic, and Anisimov. In the 3rd round there were options like Steve Mason, Marchand, Clutterbuck, Peckham, Zharkov, Tom Sestito and Daugavins. In the 4th, Reimer, Holzer, Belesky and Bachman. Derek Dorsett was drafted in the 7th round that year.

All hindsight of course, but that was a pretty decent 2nd round for players that have made the NHL. With two picks you'd think we could have gotten one right and drafted one of Kulemin, Matthias, Lucic or Anisimov. Sure glad we had Nonis pull the trigger on those key deadline deals.

What this says to me is... don't trade picks. Trade players.

Every time we've traded 'just picks', we've gotten hosed in the end.

When we trade players, we seem to do decently, most of the time. Even if those picks are just prospects... we do better.

Ah yes, you are right. Janney never played a game for the canucks. I do remember that we asked for Shanahan though.

Wow, very well done. So many good, awful and "oh yeah that happened..." moments there.

Been a fan since I was about 10 (in 86) but didn't know about trades and the like until I was in high school, about '92 just before the cup run.

I don't remember what happened with LaFayette. I must have suppressed that memory...

I do remember wondering why we got a goalie from the Rangers the year after we lost to them in the final. I did like Hirsch though, he was good for us and had that sweet Hitchcock mask.
