Alright, is there anybody out there that listens to 'the Beat 94.5' and 'Sonic 104.9'?

Holy crap, do they ever suck. I'm into hip-hop/rap, and they don't play any rap. And the hip-hop is what amuses little girls. Play crap like Taylor Swift.

Now, I understand that they play what's popular and what's new, but how are these stations even popular?

Vancouver's pretty lax in terms of hip-hop options... all that gets played is mainstream pop-rap on 94.5 and 95.3. 101.9 (CITR, UBC's radio station) has a couple of good hip-hop shows per week, but those are only singular shows - and depending where you are in Metro Vancouver the signal can be pretty iffy.

You're probably better off with internet radio, or putting a good playlist together on shuffle (depending on when you're looking to listen, of course.)

The laws in canada regarding canadian content blows. Most of the hip hop from the states don't play here, youre better off with satellite radio.

How does it 'blow'? I think it's fantastic there are content restrictions in Canada.

I wouldn't call them "music" snobs but rather genre snobs.

If you only like one genre or don't appreciate all kinds of music than you're not a music fan.

Pssh!

Not only are many Canadians artists garbage that noone would have heard of if not for CanCon regs, but there are a lot of gendres that Canadians don't cover.

I think me and you have different tastes in music. You might like Theory of a Nickelback and Marianas Trench, which is fine I don't judge. But I'll stick with my trap music and American netflix.

I didn't know people still listen to the radio =P. I mean there's so many options for better quality music. Burning CDs, satellite radio, AUX or blue tooth hookup, etc.

It'd be great if there was a station for rap/hip-hop that played NEW RECENT songs instead of me having to check online every single time.

Protection of the Canadian cultural industries. Radio is there to serve the people and public. It should promote Canadian content..

You don't like what they have to offer. You have your private iPod/CD player.

This. As much of a bummer these regulations maybe to some of you guys, it helps prevent the influx of American/foreign content there is.

CRTC has a mandate of promoting Canadian content, there need to be at least some regulations in order to do so.
