3rd line Center?

Drouin

Recommended Posts

This is no secret that we need a 3rd line center, but what IF, we move Kesler to the 3rd line?

He would be a great shutdown center. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but he would help the team out more in a shutdown role. Even more so if we traded for a 2nd line center. Maybe Derek Roy?

Line-ups would look something like this:

D.Sedin-H.Sedin-Burrows

Raymond-Roy-Higgins

Hansen-Kesler-Booth

Kassian-Lapierre-Weise/Pinizzotto

Considering we don't trade anyone from our current roster.

What would you offer the Stars for Roy?

Kesler on a more defensive 2b line with a more offensive/skilled 2a line makes us DEEP. Kesler on the 2nd line taking offense away from everyone else so he can hog the puck doesn't help unless we had a playmaking winger for him, which we don't.

Kesler would play #1 PP and #1PK and be the first to double shift for whatever reason, his minutes will be as high or higher than the Sedins. But with 3 scoring lines, including a legitimate shutdown line, we'd be killer.

Having a 2nd line thats meant to score with defensive players, and then a third line that has an offensive center who doesn't ever PK would be really dumb.

Alternitively, we go with a checking third liner like mattias who can chip in with offense but isn't as skilled as Roy. We're left with much less skill overall.

In the end, Hogson on the 2a line, Kesler on the 2b line, with Hodgson taking 2nd pp time and Kesler taking top PP time and PK time would have worked best.
