This is no secret that we need a 3rd line center, but what IF, we move Kesler to the 3rd line?
He would be a great shutdown center. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but he would help the team out more in a shutdown role. Even more so if we traded for a 2nd line center. Maybe Derek Roy?

Line-ups would look something like this:

D.Sedin-H.Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Roy-Higgins
Hansen-Kesler-Booth
Kassian-Lapierre-Weise/Pinizzotto

Considering we don't trade anyone from our current roster.

What would you offer the Stars for Roy?

I think Roy would likely be the 3rd line center if the Canucks were to trade for him

Yes, that's more likely, but I believe we need some more size down the middle. Schroeder and/or Ebbett won't cut it if we want to go hard at the cup. A guy like Matthias would be a great fit, a C from Florida. We could possibbly get him in a trade centered around him and Luongo. Guy already has 10 goals with only a $850,000 cap hit.

Great defensively, on the PK and an overall hard-worker.

Mattias would be awesome though FL will make us pay for him. They will ask for one of our top prospects like Jensen or Corrado.

Kesler is an elite player. He is fast and has an amazing shot plus he is a top defensive player. No way we are putting him on the third line

That's the thing I don't get.. Why not? He could be a more of a shutdown center and also chip in defensively. Not like we're gonna lower his ice-time. Plus we could also use a 2nd line center. Or we could move Kes to the wing.

Kesler on a more defensive 2b line with a more offensive/skilled 2a line makes us DEEP. Kesler on the 2nd line taking offense away from everyone else so he can hog the puck doesn't help unless we had a playmaking winger for him, which we don't.

Kesler would play #1 PP and #1PK and be the first to double shift for whatever reason, his minutes will be as high or higher than the Sedins. But with 3 scoring lines, including a legitimate shutdown line, we'd be killer.

Having a 2nd line thats meant to score with defensive players, and then a third line that has an offensive center who doesn't ever PK would be really dumb.

Alternitively, we go with a checking third liner like mattias who can chip in with offense but isn't as skilled as Roy. We're left with much less skill overall.

In the end, Hogson on the 2a line, Kesler on the 2b line, with Hodgson taking 2nd pp time and Kesler taking top PP time and PK time would have worked best.

Thing is, if we can afford to have Kesler on the third line (and a more offensive center on the second line) it simply means that our team has incredible depth. It's nothing against Kesler and as a professional he should accept whatever role the team assigns him to.

I just don't see the Canucks going far with a team that is weaker than the 2011 team.

That's a problem I see with having numbered lines Why can't we have a lines A, B, C and D. The roles of each line could be the same: A and B more offensively focused while C specializes in defence and chips in the occasional goal. Does it really matter which is our "top" line? Everyone just needs to play their role (and more) and the team will be successful. I don't believe that the 3rd line is less important than the 1st line.
