Belsy91
The Hurricanes placed Jussi Jokinen on waivers and 29 teams passed; Apparently the $3 million cap hit for next season was the reason. He will likely be moved but the Canes will need to either keep salary or take another player back with similar $$$. http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/car130327.html If the Canes would take Ballard off our hands for Jokinen...should Gillis do it? Drouin
Sadly, yes. Although Keith has been one of our most consistent d-men this year, his tenure in Vancouver just wasn't successful. I think a change of scenery would be for the best. And if we take Jokinen for Ballard, we get a good defensive center. Who is not only great defensively, but has some offensive upside. We also get $1m+ taken off of our Salary cap.
Lancaster
Jussi Jokinen eventually developed from a fringe 4th liner and shootout specialist to a respectable 2-way 3rd liner.

stonecoldstevebernier
Not sure if they'd want Ballard's contract going back though.... it'd kinda defeat the purpose of Carolina trying to get rid of Jokinen's cap hit. But I'd do it, absolutely. Or if Carolina would keep some of Jokinen's salary, that works too.
elvis15
I mentioned this in the waivers thread that since Carolina has no intention of actually assigning Jokinen to the AHL, the next step would be to go back to the teams that had interest and see about a trade where they keep a portion of his contract for this year and next. As you mention, an alternate option could be to take back a troublesome contract from another team in a position they could use at least to make a deal happen. It is possible they go to unconditional waivers as well, where he'd pass through waivers again with the intent to release him from his contract and become a free agent. Jokinen would have to agree to this though, essentially cancelling his contract.
DeltaSwede
It's not been his year. Tought to predict what we would get out of a player like this.
Ilya Mikheyev
Since Jussi already cleared waivers the Canucks should make a move for him, assign him to Chicago to get him some confidence and then bring him up in the playoffs as more depth - The Hockey Gods know the Canucks could use some.. His playoff numbers in 2008-2009 were good and his career numbers are 15 points in 27 games. I'd rather have him playing LW than Ballard in the playoffs.. Joslin + a 7th (who isn't even playing in Chicago) for Jokinen??

FireGillis
Carolina fans have said jokinen stinks now and isn't even a shootout specialist anymore, going 4/16 over the last few years.
Your New Coach Mr. Tippett
To Carolina 4th Rounder To Vancouver Jussi and a 3th Rounder I would NOT do Ballard for Jussi. Has this season of a relatively healthy D core clouded your memories? The Nucks WILL need depth on the backend this year. Barker is not that depth piece.
