good chicago is not a great developing team anyway........no more AHL players

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

The words "thank god" come to mind! Wahooooo!!

The Wolves have not been a good fit since day 1 IMO. They prefer to use veterans over the Canucks rookies, and it's not good for development. Maybe now Price, Mallet and other Canucks prospects will get good TOI next season. Very excited.

There were rumours a few weeks ago that they were going to buy the peoria team and move them to abby. This is looking more and more likely now.

Do the Aquillini's now Own the Peoria team? Does this mean we have the ability to move it where we want?

Yeeeessss. This is amazing news for our prospects. Hopefully there'll be a minimum amount of players on AHL-only contracts next season, and no more relegating players to the ECHL where they don't belong.

(and moving them to Abbotsford would be even better)

I imagine so, yes. The tweet says the Blues sold Peoria to the Canucks - which would imply that we have control over the team, and can choose to relocate them (providing the Flames do decide to relocate the Heat to Utica). We never owned the Chicago Wolves, we just had an affiliation agreement with them - which is why Canucks Brass didn't have full control over Wolves operations.

Great news for our prospects.

With all the money the owners having been dumping into scouting and player development, this was a must. Now the Canucks can have complete control over how their prospects get developed.

This team should do great in Abby if they move there.

That's what I was wondering. Because if they own it outright right now, they would be able to assign prospects there I would think.

Next year. There may be conditions on the sale that it only takes effect after the season to avoid complicating things, but the important thing to note is our affiliate agreement with Chicago is still in effect for the rest of this season.

This does seem like an actual purchase of the team rather than just changing affiliates, since the St Louis Blues actually owned Peoria to this point. They were looking at cutting costs (they aren't a very profitable franchise compared to others and the AHL team doesn't make them any money) and selling the Rivermen was a good way to do it.

Hopefully this is a precursor to the Heat moving and then the Rivermen moving up to Abby. Even if it isn't, this should be a much better move for our prospects to be managed and developed properly.

To those that think the team is going to be only for prospects, there's going to be AHL vets as well. If team was 100% prospects, we'd be bottom dwellers. Not a very good business.

No, that's not why people are happy. They are happy because we will have full control of what goes on with our farm team, unlike right now with the Wolves.

Awesome! We could see an all Canucks' prospects d-corp next year with the likes of Andersson, Corrado, Price, Connauton, Sauve, Tommernes.

Not bad!

It will be 90% prospects and the rest of the team will likely be filled in by Canucks depth players. Exactly the way it should be.

We have more than enough prospects to fill out a roster next season, even with players in Kalamazoo.

Agreed 100%. As much as I'm glad that prospects are going to be given bigger roles now that the Canucks own a farm team, it would be silly for every single spot to be filled with prospects. You also need some solid AHL veterans in the mix to be successful. Given the Canucks' lack of center prospects, I can definitely see Ebbett being kept in the fold to fill the #1 or 2 center role and I'd be very happy with that. Look for a couple veteran AHL defenseman or NHL call-ups on two way contracts to be in there as well.

Who is saying we will only have prospects playing? What people are saying is that we will have full control of our own team, meaning we decide who plays. Yeah, we will have vets, but it will be our vets, not someone else's.
