With the injury to Martin the Pens are pretty thin on the blue line, and with the acquisition of Iggy and Morrow they are pretty loaded up front. The 'nucks have the opposite situation. We need forwards and have more D than we can play in a night. With the current situation Ballard is in I'm thinking it could be possible to work something out with the Pens to move him and acquire a forward, maybe get Tanner Glass and a pick? That'd move $4mil/yr in cap space and maybe make room for another trade.

Or am I completely off the mark?

We definitely need an upgrade from having Ballard play forward. I just have a hard time evaluating Ballards market value based on the role and ice time he gets here. What would be reasonable to expect in return for him, personally I think hes a solid guy but AV seems to think otherwise which makes it hard to judge what we could expect in return.

Getting Murray helps the Pens, but looking at their blue line, with the loss of Martin they could use another veteran Dman.

Not only does Ballard have a broken foot, but he can't crack our D line up. If he could, we wouldn't be playing him at forward.

No way Pitt wants this guy.
