MoneypuckOverlord
If the Luke Shenn offer was true, damn we missed out lol. We could have swaped him to Philly for JVR ..hindsight of course. Shenn would've been an easier player/contract to trade. I think management failed to see the long term impact of keeping Luongo for the "best trade possible". Canuck Surfer
Already addressed. 3rd party = CBA Actually, in the case where there is not a third party interest, you can revise any contract as you please, so long as both parties are in agreement and there are no "rules"/"laws" in place to prevent it. Contracts are re-negotiated all of the time.
Canuck Surfer
Yup, you have your wish & I do not have mine... Thanx for rubbing it in! Excuse me? The champ is still a canuck. That is all
Canucks_Hockey_101
alright. Now let's stick to the original plan 2 seasons ago, trade Cory and honor the original intention of the Lu's contract and keep him as a canucks for life.... is this too much to ask for the best goaltender in the franchise? sampy
Brodeur, a true team player, has never taken more than $5.2M since the cap was implemented. Lu demanded to be paid and now he is seeing the repercussions. Canucks had to circumvent the cap to afford a good team so that Lu could selfishly be paid, unlike the rest of the Canucks players that took below market value. He made his bed, he can enjoy laying in it. I am not a Lu hater but I don't feel bad for him in the slightest.

sampy
Yeah, 5.3M is totally excessive.
darnucks
Wrong. There is a 3rd party that will not allow contracts to be renegotiated. The CBA.
CHIPS
I think Toronto is currently burning the bridge. I'd rather give Luo to Florida for a B prospect than deal him to the Leafs at this point. I like Reimer - I hope he plays well - but regardless, I think the Luo to TO ship has sailed.
Smashian Kassian
Apparently our final offer to Toronto was two 2nd round picks and Scrivens. According to Pierre LeBrun in his most recent blog.

Smashian Kassian
I'd definetly rather hang on to Luongo than to give him up for that little. But really, both sides couldn't just agree to MacArthur+Scrivens?

CrippledCanuck
It was $10M last year and $6.75 this year and the next 6. All over 12 years to bring it down to the caphit of the best goalie ever. Thanks for coming out. Just read that MG said Lu blocked a couple trades. What a guy.
CB007
MG's final offer: Sources tell ESPN.com that the Canucks were willing to unload Luongo on Toronto for goalie Ben Scrivens and a pair of second-round picks in their final, final offer before the minutes ticked away. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/23232/rumblings-luongo-deal-fails-to-launch I would've dropped the 2nd 2nd pick to make the deal. Scrivens is a good young goalie with lots of upside, a 2nd is nice and unloading Lu's contract would've been the right thing to do for the long run.
