Just to twist things around and look at it from a different perspective: does anyone think that Torres might not want to come back to Vancouver?

Torres wanted more icetime........

Anyway Friedman is quite reliable right?

Actually torres wanted more years on his contract. Mg cheaped out and offered a one year deal.

Chalk this up as one of the WTF moves of mg. Now we have to give up assets when he couldve been gotten for free.

I would LOVE Torres back

Hansen-Lapierre-Torres.

Best 4th line in league when their game is on. Make it happen!

Yes Gillis, trade away more assets instead of paying the extra few hundred thousand...
What an idiot.

You are all forgetting that we were over the cap that year (and had to do somersauts to get compliant, incl. using millions in LTIR space). So, by paying Torres just a few hundred thousand more - that basically means we would have had to lose another player somewhere...

I could definitely see Grabner going. He seems to have done his best to play his way out the door (and Gillis seems to be the smartest GM we've ever had, so, put two and two together)...

Yes please, he's been doing well in Phoenix. He's on the last year of his contract, which means no commitment needed which is what MG wanted. GITRDONE

It was TERMS. It was never about the money. Torres wanted long term security. Gillis only offered a one year deal...

Same thing with Salo, another player we could use right now.

Not true. They had cap space, that's why they signed Sturm to a $2.5M contract. Meanwhile Torres got a $1.75M contract in Phx....

If Gillis plan to solve his problems is re aquiring Raffi Torres then Aquilini should clean house.

MG will look like a clown for letting him go for nothing, but the pros outweigh the cons. We need to replace Booth's body right now and I'm sick of watching AHLers play on a team that's supposed to be contending for the Cup. We had 5 AHL forwards in our last game, Torres would be above all of them on the depth chart.

You can't replace Booth's body.

I don't watch him daily but I would think he isn't the same guy we had in 2011

We loved him because he played on the edge and then he crossed it a few times and he can't get close to crossing the line like he did before...he will get hammered by shanny

BUT I'd still take him to solidify the 4th line

To Phx: 4th pick 2013, conditional 5th rounder in 2014 (if canucks get to west finals)

To van: Torres

Sedin-sedin-burrows
Raymond-kesler-kassian
Higgins-Schroeder-Hansen
Torres-lapierre-weise

Still need to find a 3rd line C but I like the potential of the 4th line

I read somewhere Vermette won't be moving anywhere.

Somewhere in the other PHX are sellers thread.

He's not the same player.... anything more than a 3rd is an overpayment.

Yeah we can use more time on the PK, it's not like we need wins or so.

No thanks.

No, he wanted a longer contract. We offered him one year at 1.75m and they offered him two at 1m

He's getting sheltered more this year (o-zone starts, QoC, etc) but isn't doing that great as a possession player. I guess you have to expect some of that since he looks for hits to be effective but I doubt he'd do that much for us considering we haven't been wanting for bottom 6 wingers.

Unless he's become a top 9 center or a RH defenceman, I'll pass.

In the end you have to make a decision. Are you willing to risk the occasional bad penalty and sometimes undisciplined play for Torres' incredible energy? Personally I am willing to do that. Torres was a big part of our Cup run and I feel that his physicality really helped set the tone in a lot of our games.
