The Ryane Clowe trade rumours could be coming to an end soon.
According to a CSNCalifornia.com report, the San Jose Sharks have spoken to the pending unrestricted free-agent's representatives about waiving Clowe's no-trade clause, and that a deal could be completed as early as Sunday.
The report states that the Boston Bruins, who missed out on Jarome Iginla, Montreal Canadiens, and New York Rangers are believed to be the front runners for the 30-year-old.
In 27 games this season, Clowe has no goals and 11 assists.
The winger is in the final year of a four-year deal he signed with San Jose prior to the 2009-10 season, worth an average annual value of $3.625 million.
A native of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Clowe has spent his entire eight-year career with the Sharks. He has scored 101 goals and 170 assists in 422 career games.
Clowe has appeared in 68 career post-season games with the Sharks, scoring 18 goals and 27 assists.
Originally selected in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Clowe is the fourth-highest Newfoundland-born player in NHL history.

Jagr has wanted to play in Canada, specifically Montreal, for a while now. I could see them going for him, but not Clowe at all.

Clowe will go to Boston imo.

The NHL is a fixed old boys club. I've come to acceptance with that and just watch for entertainment. The 2011 & 2012 Canucks are champs in my books. Go Canucks Go!

Boston is more desperate for a player like Clowe and will pay a higher price then Montreal will because there not going to be will to trade any young assets at this time

How are they desperate for a player like that when they have the likes of Lucic, Horton and guys like Camara in the system.

He definitely fits the mold, but they don't exactly need him.

Heres something interesting:

Clowe tried to get under the skin of Ryan Kesler in the 2011 conference final with some postseason gamesmanship but his ability to grind it out is a commodity that teams are seeking. And he knows exactly what to expect from Alain Vigneault should the Canucks ever revert to a game that they became noted for.
“Vigneaut was my coach in junior (QMJHL) and I know how he likes a physical and competitive team and it’s similar to us,” said Clowe. “We kind of clash a bit and get after each other. They’re fun games and the kind I like to be involved in — high tempo and with a lot of energy. It’s what I like.”
And, quite frankly, it’s hard not to like Clowe’s game when he has everything going.
“I’ve always been a fan of the way he plays the game,” said Canucks winger Chris Higgins. “He plays hard and plays a pretty honest game and is an emotional player. He’s got some pretty good skills around the net and I would understand the need for him.”

I'm hoping he ends up in Montreal. I'd love to see Boston miss out on everyone they wanted.

Montreal could use a player like him.

I'm only saying this because I don't see us getting him.

Even if Van had assets it's not like he is going to waive his NTC to come here, why would he?

Heres something interesting:

Still doubt San Jose would trade him to us.

Well, he is a rental so I guess he could be had for a price...But should we really dish out what the best offer for Clowe? It may be too much for a rental that is playing injured.

Lapierre & Clowe both played for Montreal Rocket in 2002-2003. Clowe was a mid-season acquisition. They never made it past the first round but Clowe had 10 points in 7 games in the playoffs.

I'd be seriously concerned about Clowe's lack of goals this season and his the injuries. But he's always been a pretty great playoff performer.

Hmm. Pretty interesting.

I think he's worth the risk. He's the kind of player with the upside that can put a team like us over the top. Sure were banking on him scoring but I think he can turn it around. This is the time to snag a player like this up, in his bad season. If he was beasting right now San Jose would be throwing 5 million at him. He's having an off year in his contract year, this is a blessing to any team that wants to try and get one of the nastier power forwards in the league.

Get him and pamper him till he resigns for a few years. we have a first class organization. He may have some hate towards a few players here but I'm sure he would really consider staying once he sees how good players have it here. He's played for AV before. Especially if we make some serious improvements at the deadline and he's having success.

I really hope gillis puts a solid offer in for him. Get rid of booth and Ballard next year and you can keep him.
