He was on the ice for at least 2 Montreal goals maybe that is why. Listening to Myers post game made me think of Vancouver prior to Quinn. The team attitudes between Calgary and Buffalo was stark. Flamers playing their youth and stressing the positives. When Myer's sits there and says it was the worst experience ever in his hockey career it doesn't reflect well from what goes on in the dressing room. Usually accountability to teammates ranks highest even to coaches and fans.

Did you watch the game last night? How 'bout the one Tuesday?

Before Tuesday's game, with Vanek injured/scratched and Pominville traded, Hodgson had managed to climb out of the negative and hit a +2. But then Vanek came back Tuesday...

Tuesday's game, first two periods, Vanek (+5) was on a line with Ennis (-5) and Stafford (-12) - they ended the second period -3 each. And each one of those three goals against that line was directly due to Vanek. Just incredible to watch. I gotta guess the guy is still playing injured.

So, going into the third period the coach changes things up and puts Vanek with Hodgson (+2) and Ott (+5). Everything is fine (no Sabres goals, but not for lack of Hodgson's playmaking, shots and team-leading faceoffs, etc.) until the last moments of the game - Sabres pull their goalie and Jets get an empty netter.

Hodgson (on the ice for the empty netter) consequently ends the game -1, going down to a +1 overall. Vanek, Ennis and Stafford all ended the game -4, putting them overall at Vanek (+1), Ennis (-9) and Stafford (-16).

Then last night's game, Vanek's second game back from injury

First goal was on a Buffalo power play, with Hodgson where he ought to have been (in the o-zone heading to the net) when Myers (a -3 the game before) decided to become a forward and drive deep into the o-zone on the right side so Vanek backed up to cover the point... but in his effort to drive forward, Myers had the bad luck of the puck going off a Canadien's skate and back to Vanek, who was suddenly helpless against three Canadiens. A poorly thought out and even more poorly executed move by Myers + a helpless Vanek = goal against. Nothing to do with Hodgson except that he happened to be on the ice.

Second goal was even strength, with Hodgson covering his man at the net, one of the Sabres d (Myers I think? Have to look again) looses the puck digging and the Canadien player gets it out to his mate - Vanek's man. You know, Vanek who was again just standing around looking lost. The only way Hodgson could have somehow saved the goal against is if he was magically able to guess that Vanek was going to leave his guy wide open, and then also magically cover both his own guy by the net and Vanek's guy way off.

Posters have claimed Hodgson has only done so well by riding on Vanek's coattails (completely ignoring the fact that the kid has produced without Vanek anywhere near the ice), well by that logic Hodgson's +/- is also Vanek's responsibility. It sure has been the last two games.

And you're being overly sensitive and doing the exact same thing he is doing.  Focus on talking hockey if that's where you want the discussion to go.

its clear from their deadline moves, they are playing for a high draft pick now.

Yup, but it looks like Miller and Vanek want out, and Myers looks about done with them too, so i'm not sure if a 'bounceback' season is in the works.

They've got to decide whether or not cornerstone Coho is worth the big bucks he'll be commanding. If you're building around guys who are just going for the quick megabucks, then (continued) failure is on the horizon.

Considering Van had Cody it would have secured their center position. Who knows what rumours were true or not. About one game in four Kassian shows what he could be capable of. Good coaching should realize his worth. It would be a mistake to ever measure Kassian's worth solely on points. His physical presence isn't even a luxury it is a necessity in today's NHL. Whichever team wins a CUP is a winner of the trade.

Who is this "Zach" you speak of?
Also, Sakic had 139 goals, 228 assists by the age of 23 (4 NHL seasons). CoHo has had 33 goals, 40 assists same age, same timespan. "There really is not any comparison,"nor will there ever be.

Buffalo is in total shambles so they're doing anything to get something going. He's not a fourth line player.

Oh you're back! Did they chase you off the HF boards?

Kass will likely win a SC before Cody...so no.

You don't see Ryan Nugent Hopkins/Matt Duchene playing on the 4th line when their teams are in 'Shambles', just saying.

I have no idea why people think Cody is gonna cash in. He doesn't have much leverage or power.

I'm not saying they are exactly the same but I think a guy like Sam Gagner is somewhat comparable. Sam got a 2 year deal at 2.275 per year in his first contract after his ELC.

Hodgson has been way more valuable to the Sabres than Kassian has for the Canucks thus far.

Sorry, fan boys. That's the truth. Make excuses all you want like AV is a dink for giving him minimal mintues, they don't change that fact.

SORRY Tortorella's Rant but the Sabres are not making the playoffs this year while the Canucks are winning their division, so your arguments means cr@p. Who cares how valuable Hodgson is to his team when he and his team are golfing in May.

It's far from crap. The Sabres would be in an even bigger hole without Cody. He is far more valuable and looks far more promising. The Canucks are doing just fine with or without Kassian.
