Ghostsof1915
I'll give another name, and a blast from the past. Remember Greg Hawgood? The guy who had a cup of coffee for the Canucks? 1984-85 Kamloops Blazers: 66 games, 65 points 1985-86 Kamloops Blazers: 71 games, 34 Goals, 85 Assists, 119 Points 1986-87 Kamloops Blazers: 61 games, 30 Goals, 93 Assists, 123 Points! 307 points in 3 seasons! And he was a DEFENSEMAN! Drafted: 10th round, #202 overall in 1986, by Boston. Last season of Junior: 1987-88 63 games played, 48 goals, 85 Assists, 133 points and 142 PIMS! Best season in the NHL? 40 games, and 28 points. Longest season in the NHL? 79 games for the Canucks. Some guys just can't translate that success to the NHL. Oh..and for the Canucks: 95 games over two seasons and and 32 points. http://www.hockeydb....ay.php?pid=2200 Oh and by the way. Our draft picks in the 5th through 12th rounds? Only Krutov played more than 10 games from the 1986 Draft. That same draft we chose Dan Woodley in the first round. And the Rangers two picks later...Brian Leetch. Sigh. Cpt_scary
Because high-scoring defenseman in the QMJHL is/was nothing special. The league is a weaker league and the ability of players to score there really doesn't justify his/her 'scoring potential'. There hasn't seem to be a defenseman from the QMJHL in recent memory that has been able to translate his game to the NHL.
BedBeats™2.0
At least Gillis was drafted 1st round, 5th overall.
Navyblue
How do you know he was not given a fair shot? Have you ever considered that maybe he just sucked at the NHL level? Like many other guys who could not translate their junior game to the NHL...... Maybe that's why he hates Ballard........wants to pay someone back who actually could bring an offensive game to the NHL by snuffing that ability out and benching him...... CanuckleHorse
Lol I was thinking maybe this is why he hates rookies so much, but I think he's just a dick. But to be fair though he only played 42 games at the NHL level. That's not really a whole lot to justify calling someone a "bust" by any means, and if St. Louis thought he wasn't meeting their expectations, then they could have always at least traded him away.
