[Trade] Derek Roy to VAN

Recommended Posts

Before Roy was sent to Dallas last year from Buffalo, most Sabres fans here wanted him gone. He's softer than a wet noodle. I have to say though as far as rentals go this wasn't a bad pick-up for the 'nucks. He'll add some much needed scoring during the playoffs.

Whatever MG does, he should not hold onto him past this year!!

I for one am very happy with the trade. We need a guy like Roy now, and hopefully we can hold on to him in the future as well. That depends on the outcome of this year and his own performance of course. But with how Gillis has treated the to-be free agent guys so far, I don't think he'll let go of him if the asking price is even a bit reasonable. I don't think this was a 'rental' deal in GMMG's point of view. We'll see.

WITH A SECOND.

FOR A RENTAL?

The softest C this side of ribeiro. For a team looking for "toughness". Hodgson was much better defensively than Roy.

Roy better re-sign, and for cheap because he doesn't deserve a penny more than he makes now.

Exactly. Re-sign him, and put Kesler on the wing where he belongs. Roy's playmaking ability is much better suited for centre, while Keslers speed and wrist shot works well on the wing. Kesler needs a player like this, not Booth who couldn't pass if his life depended on it.

Derek Roy is far better than Ribiero in all aspects of the game.

His corsi positive - he's 8th on Dallas - and he gets only 42% offensive zone starts, while producing 52.8% ozone finishes. All 7 of the guys with higher corsi numbers are over 50% ozone starts. Roy is also in the top half dozen of quality of competition he faces.

His faceoff percentage 46.7% is better than Ribiero's 42.6%, and Roy's is usually around 50% where Ribiero's is consistently bad. Ribiero is one of the worst two way players on Washington, has a negative relative corsi (20th at -6.59), gets 54.3% offensive zone starts, and faces a much weaker quality of competiton than Roy - (Roy +.354, Ribiero -.634, 16th on the Caps).

This is an outstanding deal imo. Was almost shocked that the price was so low.

Connauton has an expiring ELC, has not performed well, and is buried behind a very deep contingent of left handed blueliners on the Canucks roster.

A 2nd for Roy is a great deal. At his worst he's a 40-50 point player, at his average he's in the 70 pt range - and he's a good two way player. Funny all the complaints about his size - he's Hodgson sized but a far, far better two way player.

If the pick was conditional the trade would not be accepted by Dallas. There is a good chance Connauton will make no significant impact in the NhL.

Raymond for Clowe

4th pick for Torres

Luongo for Matthias, Howden, 2nd round pick

3rd and Rodin for Bishop

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Clowe Roy Kesler

Higgins Matthias Hansen

Torres Lapierre Kassian

Kesler didn't win the Selke Award for being a top-winger. As a centre-man AV takes advantage off Kes' defensive play more affectively. And - who else is better standing in front of the net & converting shots & rebounds - better than Kes. Kes really does it all...it depends upon what is required.

Can recover that 2nd easily in another deal.

This might be the best deal of the past week.

MG nailed it.

And this gives him better options if moving Luo - can take more futures and centers are a premium, so the Luongo negotiations just got that much more flexible.

This move is gonna piss off all the competition who know what Roy is worth.

To put this in perspective folks, Roy was dealt to Dallas for Ott and Pardy.

Ott is ridiculously over-rated around here.

What Gillis just acquired for a 2nd is a player who has more value that Steve Ott.
