So it winds up as Hodgson, KConn and a 2nd for Kassian and Roy?

Still not sold, but it's not entirely bad.

I hope the Laughs lose out on Kipper and/or Miller now, and fail miserably because of it.

hmmm what are the chances for Roy to resign after this season...

not good considering he wanted over 6mil from dallas... a third line center won't make more than our 2nd sooo i would say unless he loves it in van he is gone in july..

So, Buffalo moved Roy to Dallas so Hodgson could be their top center.
Vancouver moved Hodgson because he wanted to be a top center.
Vancouver gets Roy to fill our 3rd line center role since Hodgson was traded.

Yeah..

Are you saying you'd have preferred we trade Hodgson for Roy?

You obviously don't follow the Canucks much.
Tanev, Corrado and Anderson are all going to be better.

All three are right side D, but your point still stands.

Edler and Garrison are better comparisons as they're both ahead of Connauton on the depth chart and still young enough to be there for awhile. It's not horrible we moved him, but might have liked the pick to be a 3rd/4th. Seems to be the going rate though and hard to get around that with so few sellers.

Tanev is an NHL'er, not a prospect. None of our D prospects left are ready to step in the line-up this year or next year.

Sauve, Polasek, Price plus Vandermeer for this year as depth cover. Connauton was ahead of these guys, but mainly for offensive ability where each of the three prospects fit better into a depth defensive role than Connauton would. Not saying it's great to lose him, but understandable.

I appreciate the concern about our depth with Ballard gone, but we're fine on the left side if one of our right side D prospects can step up. Andersson has been better defensively on the Wolves than Connauton. Corrado will likely be two years away, but we could even see one of the left side D I mentioned step up too.

Garrison Bieksa
Hamhuis Tanev
Edler Andersson

You can swap the pairings around, but I don't see a major issue with that lineup and having depth like Alberts, Barker, Vandermeer, other UFA D, etc. You can say what about injuries, but with the cap going down all teams will have their depth tested.

But back to Roy:

The main concern I have is him being a rental, but that's the same concern as Clowe, Jagr or any of the other rumoured players (those not involved in a Luongo deal at least). Certainly we won't take on a second pending UFA with this kind of cap hit and expect to re-sign them, so I think that'd rule Clowe out unless we deal someone like Booth/Ballard to make the space (and we'd have to just for the cap space this year most likely).

On it's own, it's likely not enough to change our playoff fortunes and would be a waste if he does become a rental. Then there's where Schroeder fits, and how the chemistry/lineup works going forward.

But, let's put it this way: Gillis >>>>>>>>>>>> all the CDC'ers who wanted to panic.

Roy, from the fire emblem series, as presented in the Super Smash Brothers series.

Congrats BTW! Going by your avatar and sig it looks like everything went well and you have a healthy baby girl now!

well if they give up a top prospect, a 1st and a roster player for Luongo like MG is asking then they're failing for many years to come.

Terrible trade! An undersized UFA, at the end of his contract, for our best D prospect and a 2nd in a deep draft? Total fail. We're not exactly deep on prospects, and we just gave up two more for a 2 month rental

Give it a rest some people don't want to wait another 3-4 years for the prospects to play to their potential and want to see something now.

Luo to Toronto is all but impossible right now, so it doesn't matter. We dont need Bozak or any of their plugs, they'd be stupid to give up Kadri/Gardiner, so to hell with em

Not a great trade. Roy wants $$$$ and that 2ND rounder could turn into a diamond in the ruff.

PK Subban, Shea Weber were all 2ND rounders.

exactly, but to be fair I do like the way the Leafs are playing. If only the Nucks played with half the heart the Laughs play we'd easily be cup favourites.

Top 6:
Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Burrows-Roy-Kesler

OR

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Roy-Kesler-Kassian

I still feel like a checking center will be coming to us in a trade by tomorrow, Maybe Gordon?

Make no mistake Roy is most likely sticking in the top 6 and if we make a move for Clowe I think Kassian may be seeing more time in Chicago than expected.

Datsyuk was a 6th rounder guess we shouldn't trade those either

yes. Kadri is hot right now. He's also a little punk. I'm SO glad we did not trade for him.

The Leafs are the epitome of hot 'n cold. One week they are ready to take over the world, the next they are fighting to make the playoffs. It's been that way for YEARS now....

That is not going to change just on the basis of play by a couple of hot rookies.

I don't think so. Clowe could act as a mentor for Kassian, so to speak. I think if we got Clowe, him and Kassian would be put on the same line.

Canucks have had one 2nd rounder that's made the NHL in the last decade. With your line of thinking, better not trade a 5th rounder because Benn was drafted in the 5th.

StoP trashing our new players nincumpoops. he will be far more useful to us then manny was even pre injury. We need offence, and if ya keep shooting your simple mouths off, your right he won't resign. Any plug can be coached to play good defence but you can't coach talent, so be thankful ya bums.

Seems like a fair deal, sucks to give up Connauton but it's not like he's a top prospect. This could be very good if we manage to resign him for a fair price. We finally have the centre depth and the playmaker I was hoping for. He also has a sweet house:

Because we know good players are good players even if they're merely average height? After all, Martin St Louis is an inch shorter than Roy...

And it's frankly just a myth that we're a small team. We currently only have 3 players listed under 6 feet - Ebbett, Schroeder, and Ballard. Since Schroeder (who's an inch shorter) was sent down to make room for Roy, our team isn't any shorter than it was before.

I couldn't find any more up-to-date stats, but according to James Mirtle's blog, as of the start of the season Vancouver was above average in height.
