LeanBeef
I still believe Clowe would have came to Vancouver if we had the exact same deal.... Looks like Gillis didn't wanna pay the same price Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 26m Canucks say they are out on Clowe
DeNiro
After acquiring Roy, if the Canucks want t improve their offense we should start on the backend and get a PPQB. That alone is worth a half a goal a game at least. This should be our main priority.
mpt
If Pominville is on the market, I'd much rather go for him than Clowe, hope MG has a backup plan.

Master Mind
SJ would much rather him go to NY than be on the Canucks. Not surprised NYR got him. We essentially would have had to outbid them which would make it too much overpayment by us.

LeanBeef
Do you think Clowe would of chose us if we were in the East too?
mpt
Nope, both deals were essentially equal. It all came down to the player. And he chose New York plain and simple.

oldnews
For that hefty price we could probably get ourselves a super stud like Chris Neil - at a much better cap hit of only 1.9 for years..., and hits like a gd train....151 hits already this year. Three picks and Ottawa might just be tempted. If we're gonna dole out, let's go for the bang for your buck.

gaydar
I agree. I hope this makes Gillis take a stepback and address our real needs. We need to get our powerplay going again, and it starts with a powerplay QB. Our D still needs help despite being deep on paper. For what they were supposedly offering for Clowe, I'd much rather get Boyle or Streit. And then fill out the grit factor with a cheaper rental. Otis
A defender who is around average that can play 5 minutes of PP time and produce is all we need in that spot. We can't keep giving the puck to Edler on the breakout. He's helping kill the penalty for the other team.

DeNiro
Except we don't have a 2nd rounder or as good of 3rd rounder, and we are in the same division next year. San Jose would rather trade him out East
mpt
Highly doubt Boyle or Streit can be had for a deal anywhere similar to Clowe, but I agree in that they'd be welcome additions most definitely.

mpt
It wasn't up to San Jose at that point. It was up to where Clowe was willing to waive his no trade clause to go. He chose NY, likely because they'll re-sign him to a long term deal.
