I think you are wrong on both counts.

I think the Island would be very appealing to Lou.... Brooklyn is the place to be.

A UFA, a former 1st and a 2nd? Look around.... that's a bargain today.

And I think you're wrong, Lu has no value with his current contract. You're not getting that deal in your wet dreams, bud.

Quick question. Why is SJ trading him when they are in a playoff position?
Are they saying he is negative value to the team as they would rather get draft picks rather than someone who can help THIS playoffs?

And if that's the case, why do WE want him?

That's a good question, I don't know why San Jose have been sellers lately; it's somewhat strange.

I think you're delusional on player values my friend. Douglas Murray fetched 2 2nd's. Give your head a shake.

Yep and everyone agrees that was an overpayment for Murray.

Streit is a 35 year old pending UFA. Two 2nds and a 3rd should be more than enough for him.

You can also say look what Iginla and Morrow went for. A first round pick and a top prospect for each one of them. They have more value than Streit does. No way he goes for that amount.

I still believe Clowe would have came to Vancouver if we had the exact same deal.... Looks like Gillis didn't wanna pay the same price

The Canucks gave up on getting him, so basically Clowe had no other choice (since he declined Boston and Philly)

Except we don't have a 2nd rounder or as good of 3rd rounder, and we are in the same division next year. San Jose would rather trade him out East

Clowe picked New York over Vancouver. Wanted to play out east, and not have to play against his old team (he was saying this to Bobby Mac).

Wasn't Vancouvers fault, Gillis apparently made a comparable offer.

I guess the Islanders are confident moving forward with 40 year old Nabokov, an aging defenseman about to walk without compensation, and a player who is unhappy with his role and has asked to be moved.

Okay, you have a valid point on Streit, but I still think GM's tend to overpay on deadline day for the most part and I could see Streit getting more.

Boyle on the other hand I still believe would have to get more, SJ isn't in full rebuild mode, they likely would want a young impact player or someone who's very close, as well as some picks.

I think it came down to did San jose want to trade to a western or Eastern team because I'm sure MG would've offered something as similar maybe a second next year since we just traded ours for roy

Ok we didn't get him but the good thing about all of this is that Gillis is on the phone trying to get things done. He knows about the window and that its go time.

Clowe not worth the 2x 2nd and 3rd. Only 1/30 team will win the cup.

If the Rangers meet the Pens in the first round, it will be a fun series.

Pominville is a better player overall, but Clowe is better at being big and a nuisance.

I'd hope for Pominville now, he played well with Roy in Buffalo.

Sweet. You can count me in the "didn't really want Clowe" category. Combine that with MG still obviously needing to get someone else and I'm pretty happy.

He wouldnt go into details about the deal and said that he believed that Clowe's best interest was in the east so he gave up... So technically they did give up on him

Streit and Nabokov are UFAs - Streit not looking like he's gonna re-sign - Nabokov an ideal expiring contract backup for us that the Isles can extract a little rental value for.

Luo solidifies the up and comer Isles future and the gaping hole in goal that is rapidly approaching.

Isles need a veteran blueliner - can retrieve value for Streit at the same time.
Have a ton of young depth at center and a couple more A prospects emerging - can take back Ebbett for veteran depth for this year's run.
Have a lot of prospect depth - need to give us an A and B prospect for Luo.

Positional swaps that take create no holes on either roster.

Luo Ballard Ebbett (UFA)
Streit (UFA), Cizikas, Nabokov (UFA), 1st/Nino, Pokka.

Why would you EVER trade Luongo to the Islanders?

Luongo deserves to go wherever the hell he wants. If his #1 trade destination is Florida, you trade him to Florida. For all the crap he's had to deal with, you don't crap on him even more when you trade him.

Clowe > Neil don't kid yourself

Not in recent history he's not - and not considering cap value he's not - and not considering the context they play in.
Neil is a depth guy who scored 13 goals and 28 points last year, 10 this year, 1.9 cap hit and signed for 3 more years, over 400 hits...with similar underlying numbers.
Clowe is a top 6 who scored 17 and 45, over twice the cap hit, a UFA, half as many hits, not very inspiring underlying numbers considering the talent he plays with....
I'd value Neil as highly as Clowe considering those factors and that imo, he upgrades our bottom six much more that Clowe (if in fact he upgrades) our top 6.

That's a side issue. Of course Florida would be ideal for Luo, and in fact I have maintained since before last year's draft that the best option is Florida, but if that's not happening, why do people assume the NYI are such a black hole?

I don't assume to know what Luo would want - as it stands rumour #1 is to Toronto, and as far as I'm concerned, the Islanders have a brighter future than the Laffs, and Luongo could make a lot of sense for them.

Really though, my main point was that you "bud" response to theminister wasn't one that I was in agreement with.
Luo is worth something along the lines of Cizikas, and an A and B prospect and pick imo.
We'll see what he goes for, but if it's to Florida, I'd guess something like Matthias or Goc, Petrovic and Upshall.

this makes sense for San Jose, just like the Murray trade, why would you trade within your own division unless the deal is UNBELIEVABLE, it can't be a comparable deal as this player may come back to haunt you.......and maybe, just maybe Clowe out of respect didn't want to play against San Jose.......just saying

Wow, just saw that is was a 2,2,3 for Clowe. CDC would have lost their ish (in a bad way) if GMMG did that deal. I know I would have.

Clowe is just filling the gap for the Rags that they created when they crapped the bed when they lost Prust. And look what it cost them.

We already got a 'power forward' that can't score, nor create on his own. Hint, he just got sent to the AHL.

I'm on the Torres bandwagon now.
