Earlier today, the Vancouver Canucks acquired center Derek Roy.

The move was not insignificant so far as trades are concerned.

Still, hours later, assistant general manager Laurence Gilman was telling TEAM 1040 radio that “we’re not done trying to improve this hockey team.”

Gilman said the Canucks may add one or two more pieces before tomorrow’s deadline, as the franchise goes “all-in” for the playoffs.

“We know this is our team and it’s our time and it’s fertile, and we’re trying to win the Stanley Cup,” said Gilman. “We’re working at every angle here to see if we can add another piece.”(Continued)

This is the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't go way too hard and risk the full future.

I think if we can do something like this:

Daniel - Henrik - Burrows

Raymond - Kesler - Hansen

Higgins - Roy - Jensen

Weise - Lapierre - Kassian

sounds interdasting

If I was gmmg, I'd move Luongo for a 3rd line player, and a pick/prospect.

Since Roy will be playing Third Line centre in a healthy line-up our top two priorities are probably

- Top 6/9 Winger (No 69 jokes pweez)

- Right Handed Defenceman

If we can acquire players tomorrow that meets this criteria we are going to be the "powerhouse" of the west.

I say we should get rid of Luongo now since he is our highest value trade asset, and we he won't help in this years playoff run since Schneider has pretty much proven himself to be a good starter.

If he wanted to go all in, he should have made every effort to build the team up in 2012, coming off the loss in the Finals. Deal Schneider to Colorado for their first rounder and draft Larsson for starters. Sign Max Talbot off free agency, and later on attempt to get a trade for Mike Richards, Mike Camalleri, Jarome Iginla, to name a few. If your lineup looked something like this:

Sedin-Sedin-Iginla

Camelleri-Richard-Torres

Burrows-Malhotra-Hodgson

Wiese-Lappierre-Hansen

Hamhuis-Larsson

Bieksa-Edler

Salo-Rome

Luongo

(any new backup)

A team like that could very well challenge for the Cup, especially with having three offensively potent forward lines (all of which also extremely responsible defensively), plus a strong blueline and netminder. Certainly stronger than the 2011 team. The second line in particular, with Mike Richards and Mike Camelleri, they can be especially good against the East.
