ccc44
Going into the playoffs, this team is much better than 2011. Just compare the lines... 2011: Sedin - Sedin - Burrows Raymond - Kesler - Higgins Hansen - Lappy - Torres Oreskovich - Bolduc - Tambellini Edler - Ehrhoff Hamhuis - Bieksa Salo - Rome Luongo Schneider 2013: Sedin - Sedin - Burrows Raymond - Kesler - Kassian Hansen - Roy - Higgins Weise - Lappy - Pinnizzotto Edler - Bieksa Hamhuis - Garrison Tanev - Ballard Schneider Luongo This is assuming Sweatt and Jensen are sent down and that Booth stays injured. So much better. Anyone saying this team is worse is dead wrong. This team has a far better future than the first round...
apollo
Definitely a better team on paper. It'll come down to if Cory can steal us gameslike luongo did

stexx
this current team has the potential to be as good. are they currently? no. But if they get on a roll and Roy can take the pressure of the Sedins and Kesler checks like a demon then the canucks have as good a shot as anyone. Boston and LA went through major slumps in their cup seasons and didnt look like stanley cup favourites either. It is all about getting hot at the right time and not getting snakebitten by injuries. The canucks have a pretty good shot.
BedBeats™2.0
The only similarities have been the injury bug. Healthy team, better chance at advancing.
NuckFanLivingInCalgary:(
On paper maybe. But the way the team has been playing no. I'd like to think our defence can't get any worse, and hopefully we see a jump in offence with Roy and Kesler back. Maybe things will start looking better. Minny got better (although they overpaid). We need things to click come playoffs.
ToddThePunisherBertuzzi
2011 was a great year and a great team that had a lot of components the current Canucks do not have. First off, you had Torres and Ehrhoff, a booming body and PP and PK intelligence as well as two slapshots from the point that made goalies cringe in Salo and Ehrhoff. The 2013 team (while better with the addition of Roy) are still missing consistent goaltending (they're good, but they need to be consistently good like in 2011), big bodies like Kesler, and speed like Booth on this team. Once Kesler gets back, we will know if this team is really ready for the battle-testing of the playoffs, right now we just don't know.

DunCanuck
You are ignoring the fact that other teams have gotten better as well. Minnesota, Chicago, and Anaheim have not just made moves, but have found chemistry. The competition in this leagues is incredibly fierce, teams that do not make the right moves at the right time will drop in the standings significantly. safin
That defensive corps blew away the corps of today. Edler looks to have regressed from 2011 Edler, Salo was a rock, Hoffer was reliable in his own end and created offense. Rome was nothing special but didn't cost you games. Hammer was hammer. Bieksa was Bieksa. Ballard doesn't touch the ice, Tanev and Garrison have been good but they don't add up to Ehrhoff/Salo. Offensively this team has a higher ceiling potentially, but whether they can play upto that potential remains to be seen, they haven't at any point this season. Wasaslapshot89
Very true. However, so is every other team in the west. First round knockout for the Canucks! That is if they make the playoffs. This team needs a quality GM. We had a chance with this team and it slips away each year when Gillis does nothing to improve the team. Look at the teams that are in the running. Did they sit back and pick up one insignificant player (rental) ? Too bad we had the wrong GM at such an opportune time.

Van40
Again, if we can catch fire we can go far. Imo we have a tougher bigger team tho
Master Mind
That was with the league's best PP. And with Art Ross and Selke winners. The whole team is playing much worse than they should be. If they played to their potential, then I might agree
Captain-Canuck2562
Difference is, Sedins are older and not as effective , Keslers coming off some big surgeries and other teams have gotten stronger, and special teams much weaker then 2011. Do hope we can win it all though. Praying this team is better!
Phil_314
That's some high expectations for this team. I doubt Cory and Lu will win the Jennings again, nor with the Art Ross be hoisted by a player named Sedin, nor the Selke (and a 75-point season) by Kesler. We're not close to having the best PP or the best record in the League. Lastly while there is better depth (and better 3rd line) I'm not sure about some question marks that remain in this team, such as Kassian's readiness for the 2nd line and Edler's ability to play well defensively when the team's been shaky as a whole. Then again, if Schneider DOES stand on his head, Kassian DOES become our Lucic and Kes and Raymond find their forms again I think they can survive. I'd also stack the 2nd line and have someone else man the 3rd line.
etsen3
In terms of names our team might be better but in terms of stats and actual play? Hell no not even close. That 2011 was straight up dominant, top level special teams on both the PP and PK, most goals scored, least goals allowed. It seemed like every time we played that the team knew they were probably gonna win, even when they were down. We had everyone playing at the top of their game, and had great chemistry. If it wasn't for injuries we could have won the Cup. This year's team has the same talent but we don't have the same jump and confidence. The 2011 team was very clearly a cut above the rest of the league, this year we are just above average.
