So Gilman said yesterday that the Canucks weren't done.

Today they did nothing to make this team better and are stuck with 9 M in goalie salary.

The Canucks are done. Cooked. Put a fork in it.

To have made one move to acquire a 5'9" centre as a rental is really an abject failure on Gillis' part.

The fact that Gillis inked Luongo's horrible contract and now wasn't able to move it should be all the Aquilinis need to relieve him of his duties.

Gillis is a great agent, but hasn't translated that into being a solid GM at all. He has clearly failed to improve this team since the Stanley Cup run of 2011.

Nope not a mess. As expected there were no decent offers out there obviously. So we have another great keeper until the summer. Everything is fine besides the CDC whiners who waited all day and are sad it was for nothing.

If you like looking at statistics to determine who's better, you're just a casual fan.

2.41 season GAA isn't very impressive. Let's not get into playoffs and his SV%.

Cory Schneider is the next Patrick Roy.

Where are the Aquilinis in all of this?
basking in the sun in Fiji? Must be somewhere with no phone service or surely Gillis would be gone by now.

Not a mess at all, I am disappointed we couldn't trade Luongo and we couldn't add more depth. But we did managage to pick up one of the biggest names out there for a decent price and we filled our biggest need. So not a smashing success but not terrible either. Overall our team is much better than it was before the deadline.

This team desperately needed to get bigger and tougher.......so he gets a 5'9 cman as his only move. Anyone who says he didn't get a big fat F this year is in denial.

Agreed. Gillis signed a contract that no one would touch, in spite of there being an extremely good player being tangled at the end of it. The Canucks might fight hard for the rest of the year, but they are no longer cup contenders and an early exit should spell the end of Gillis and AV.

Gillis made a mistake for letting Torres go the first time around.

The Canucks did not do enough to better this team while it seems like every other team added pieces for a run at the cup.

If the Canucks suffer another early playoff exit, both av and Gillis need to go.

Are you old enough to be allowed on the internet?

The team got better, or are you just too stupid to see that?

The 5'9 center you are dissing is easily a 20 goal scorer and potential point per game player.

It can't be helped that the other teams aren't willing to trade for Luongo. Just cause things don't go the way you want, you can still have some class. And not just recklessly bash our GM who obviously tried very hard to make the team better the past week.

What mess are you talking about? We are 4th in the standings with a decent chance at the Stanley Cup this year. Grow up.

I agree this is a mess. Derek Roy is a welcome addition but not the answer. Also, Luongo doesn't deserve to be a bench warmer. He is a class act and should be starting on a regular basis. Gillis should do this team a favour and fire himself.

A mess, until the playoffs when we have two great goaltenders and, as we all know goaltending is critical in order to have playoff success.

And I'm confident Roy will be a great addition and contribute to the team. Good things come in small packages...remember Cliff Ronning?

I'm good with it....if it's not there what do you do? Can't force things and trades are two (three) way streets. Easy to grumble/complain but we're not kids waiting at the Christmas tree to see if we got what we wanted...this is a little more involved.

Direct quote from Luongo when asked why he wasn't moved, "because my contract sucks". Luu is such a classy guy I feel terrible for him, he looks like someone who's dog was just hit by a car.

Decent offers? Please. Gillis hamstrung the entire process by signing Luongo to that ridiculous contract in the first place.

No self respecting team would take on that contract with the cap coming down. No matter the talent. The problem with many CDCers is the blind faith you all have in Gillis.

Only bandwagoners call other people bandwagoners. I love the team (aside from Edler), and have for over 20 years. That hasn't changed. The management?

To be fair Luongo deserve to be traded at the deadline, he has been a great teammate so far in the season so he deserve to play. At some point MG should stop being concerned about the return but concern more about the player, I am not saying he should pull a Feaster but MG definitely shouldn't to be too focused on the return. I mean if a team offers a first round pick, and two solid prospects which seem like the market value for any star player right now then take it. It is not always about improving your team now, you have to improve your team's prospect pool so the team stay competitive for years to come. By holding on to Lu right now, I would think Lu is not really happy about that, and the longer you hold on to him the more trouble you are asking for. What if this summer no trade is available still? Then you are left with the choice of buying him out or buying Ballard and Booth out... Like if MG keep waiting, I think at some point Lu will demand a trade and the return we will get at that point will just be brutal. It is better for both party to get this thing over and fast.

Plz explain why you think a 5.3 million of cap hit for a world class goalie is a problem with any team out there....

It sounds like u still think his cap hit is 10 millionish .......

There is a problem with the contract, and it is the Ntc that come with it. But it's cap hit is the last thing any team would worry..
