Hey guys. I see lots of topics regarding different scenarios regarding the players we want to move but I want to get a bottom line worst case situation where MG has to make a decision.

We got;

Luongo $5.3 mil for 8 more years

Ballard $4.25ml for 1 more year after this

Booth $4.25 mil for another 2 years after this

5.3 + 4.25 + 4.25 = 13.8 mil saving right there.

If we cant trade these guys can we not put them on waivers first before having to buy them out?

Furthermore, we Edler is going from 3.25 to 5 mil 1.75 increase. Burr is going from 2 to 4.5 so thats another 2.5 mil increase Higgins is also going from 1.9 to 2.5 which isnt bad. is .6

So even if we get rid of the 13.8 mil, we have to minus 5.1 mil in increase net gain 8.7

However, we do have manny and Raymond coming off which is 2.75 and 2.125 . Do we re sign Raymond? Even if we dont our gain now goes from 8.7 to 13.6

So dumping Luongo, Ballard, Booth, Raymond and Manny minus raises to Edler, Burr and Higgy, we got a total of 13.6 mil.

The cap is going down 5.5 mil so our real net gain is 8.1

Is 8.1 enough to replace a second line winger, back up goalie , Tanev's raise, and resign Alberts and other 4th liners. Then after that we have to consider re signing Roy.

What do you guys think? Doable?

It's going to be a tough off season to sort out the numbers. $2.2m space with 14 players signed.

In all fairness, if I had the choice between Roy at 5 mil, and Raymond at 4.. I would make a solid effort to keep Roy.

We can dump booth, ballard and luongo and we still are in cap trouble. I think we need to dump another player, to make this team even functionable. Technically, if we trade booth and ballard for picks, we can keep both goalies.. but we don't wanna do that.

we could look like this, and i swapped out schneider for Luke Schenn and 1st (for instance)

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)
Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m)
Nicklas Jensen ($0.894m) / Jordan Schroeder ($0.851m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Mason Raymond ($2.500m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Dale Weise ($0.677m)
DEFENSEMEN
Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Chris Tanev ($2.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m)
Eddie Lack ($0.750m)

i dunno, just throwing numbers out there. Booth and Ballard have to go though. the key pieces we need are young players who can step in and play right away.

I'm not sure why anyone is worried about the cap next season, as we have seen year after year, Gillis and Gilman are absolute geniuses when it comes to cap compliance. Maybe there are other areas of concern for MG like drafting ect. but I won't lose a second of sleep worrying about cap problems with Gillis at the helm.

We'll probably trade Lu, Ballard, and maybe Booth if we can.

We can't keep Roy unless he takes a discount.

Have to re-sign Tanev, Raymond, and Lappy but no drastic cap increases there.

I think we'll be fine. Cap is something management has handled well.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

now we still need a thrid line center because schroeder isnt strong enough to be our solid third line center.

If Im not mistaken Schroeder will have a little over two months to get bigger, get better defensively, and work on his face offs and so on. He'll be ready next year.

It is possible, but absolutely would require us using some of our younger players on ELCs to fill holes. If we could trade Luongo, Ballard and Booth for picks prior to the draft, I'd be happy with that (assuming a decent return), but scaling back fro next year might mean not working to icing the best possible team if some of our younger players aren't up to snuff.

Booth and Ballard for draft picks. Maybe more.

I'm sure Booth would be a good fit in Nashville, similar to Mike Fisher going to Nashville (Nashville is in the middle of the US "Bible Belt" area, and with Booth being a devout Christian....)

Ballard could go to Detroit, they're pretty slim on defence.

Luongo still has a market. If anything, we can get the Aquilinis to eat up some of the contract money to make to make it a lot more affordable and accessible to more teams. Heck, maybe we trade Schneider instead if we really can't get anything for Luongo.

Possible scenarios...
Booth, Schroeder to Nashville for Forsberg.

Ballard to Detroit for a 2nd round pick.

Luongo, a prospect, and a 1st round pick to Florida or Tampa Bay for their first round pick -- we eat some of Luongo's contract money. Luongo's value to a team with young goaltenders would be immense -- he could mentor them just like he did with Schneider.

Or Schneider to New Jersey for Larsson.

So how much contract would we be taking back. We get rid of 13.8 cap space but in the trades how much would we have to take back?

I can see a scenario where we keep Roy. You guys have to remember, we were in on Clowe until the very end, and one of the biggest talking points was that he wanted an extension not too different from what Roy is looking for, if he exceeds expectations, or in the very least, excels more than Booth ever did in his time here, than we take that money that was supposed to go to clowe and booth, and we keep Roy for the forseeable future.

I've always been a Booth fan, but given Higgins' recent extension and Raymond's chemistry with Schroeder, I think he may actually go. He could probably fetch a 3rd from a team, so no need to buy him out. May want to buy out Ballard though. But I've always wanted to keep him, but I'm not sure how that happens now especially if they want Jensen and/or Sweatt to play next year. Personally I wouldn't have kept Higgins, as valuable as he is, and maybe gotten rid of one of Booth or Raymond, so the lineups like this:

With Booth:
Sedin-Sedin-Jensen
Booth-Kesler-Kassian
Burrows-Schroeder-Hansen
Plug-Lapierre-Weise

With Raymond:
Sedin-Sedin-Jensen
Burrows-Kesler-Kassian
Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen
Plug (maybe Higgins now)-Lapierre-Weise

Booth is a must go.

Wouldn't mind keeping Ballard if we can, it would be the last year of his contract.

And it looks like we will have to eat some of Luongos contract in order to move him, I don't see another way around it.

If we can Keep Roy for Kesler money I would be all over that. He is the exact type of player Schredder could be on his very best day. He was prior to the deadline by far the best fit for this team available. I am super excited to watch him play in a nux uni.

Ideal next season line up
Sedin Sedin Burr 16.7mill
Raymond Kes Schred 9.5mill
Higg Roy Hans 8.5mill
******maxlap**** 2.5mill
37.2mill fwd
Edler Tanev 7mill
Ham Juice 9.1 mill
Garri ***** 5.5mill
21.7mill

Goal 6 mill

Total just over but im sure Gillman can figure out where to hide .2mill

Vancouver: -Luongo (5.3) for Toronto: - 2rd pick 2013
- 3th pick 2013 - Ben Scrivens (612,500)
- Matt Frattin (925,000)
- Jake Gardiner (1,116,667)

Booth (4,250,000) and Ballard (4,200,000)buyouts = 8,450,000 saved

Cap relief from Toronto trade (5,333,333) minus (2,654,167) = 2,679,166 saved

Total cap relief: 8,450,000 + 2,679,166 = 11,129,166

Let Raymond, Lapierre and Alberts walk. If we could I would keep them all.

Sign Roy to a similar deal that reflects Kesler if possible.

Sign Tanev 1.1-1.5

Sedin(6,100,000) Sedin(6,100,000) Burrows(4,500,000) = 16,700,000

Higgins(2,500,000) Kesler(5,000,000) Kassian(870,000) = 8,370,000

Frattin(925,000) Roy(5,000,000) Hansen(1,350,000) = 7,275,000

Pinizzotto(610,000) Center(800,000) Wesie(630,000) = 2,040,000

Bieksa(4,600,000) Hamhuis(4,500,000) = 9,100,000

Edler(5,000,000) Garrison(4.600,000) = 9,600,000

Tanev(1,200,000) Gardiner(1,116,667) = 2,316.667

Schneider(4,000,0000)

Scrivens(612,500)

This all calculates to 60,014,167

Must consider Jensen(894,167) and Lack(750,000)

Though I would have some fun with some numbers. It is going to be really tight next year can not wait to see what happens.
