Please Call 911
Sean Day, a 15 year old defenseman, was granted exceptional player status in the OHL and subsequently selected 4th overall by the Missasauga Steelheads. He is the first player granted exceptional player status not drafted first overall. For those of you who are not familiar with the OHL's exceptional player status, it is when a player is underage for the OHL draft and is granted permission to be drafted a year ahead of his OHL draft year. This status is usually reserved for great players. John Tavares was awarded this status in 2005 and he became the 2008 1st overall pick. Other exceptional players include Aaron Ekblad (2011, 2014 NHL Draft Eligible) who is looking to be either 1st or 2nd overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, with Sam Reinhart, Connor McDavid (2012, 2015 NHL Draft Eligible) who is leading the OHL in points by a rookie and looking like a 1st overall pick in 2015, and now Sean Day. It seems the OHL is making this an annual thing, granting players exceptional status now, considering it's happened for the third year in a row. Before 2011 there had only been one player who had been granted this status. Not sure if this is a good thing that they are doing this annualy, I personally liked it better when they did it a lot less frequently ie. Tavares in '05 and then Ekblad in '11 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=664438&navid=nhl:topheads
Nas19
This happened a while ago. Anyways the teams that passed over Day in the draft are going to regret it. He is going to be the best skater in the OHL next year and when it's his draft year he will be the best player in the OHL. Oh and btw, Brian Kilrea said that Sean Day is the best 14 year old hockey player he has ever seen. He's about 6'1 - 6'2 and somewhere around 180 - 200 pounds... as a 14/15 year old. Here are some highlights (although they are only from one game): oh in case you couldn't tell he's number 4 for white
Caboose
This is an absolute steal for the Steelheads, good on them.
PlayStation
It's becoming annual because the skill level and development is getting better. No point in him sticking around in his local league where he wont grow, he'll get a lot more experience and help up in the OHL. It's nothing to "not like," its great for the game of hockey! Captain Aerosex
So are these getting chucked out more for a reason, or are young players actually getting better?

Plum
Sean Day is eligible for 2015 draft? Woah, Ekblad vs Reinhart (even though Ekblad is probably going to win it). Now McDavid vs Day?
Tortorella's Rant
Its called - the stuff they pump our milk and food with..is making kids bigger and stronger Go watch and elite 14 yr old team. You'll see kids 6'0 + 180lbs When I was that age, there was always ONE really big guy, he played center on our bball team and had no coordination because he was growing into this body. Now, you see a strong majority of bigger kids, who are very coordinated etc. Sure training is better but honestly, its all the steroids they're putting in our chickens, cows, etc ... SergioMomesso
Its becoming more common that younger players are getting to good for local leagues, and development leagues. My good friend is up in a camp in Prince George right now, it's a U16 prospect development camp, they make three stops (Prince George, Terrace, and Osoyoos) But he said the kids are crazy, and 1/3 of these kids are drafted into the WHL
