Zoolander
not really.. in 2011 some of our player peaked out.. Sedins Kesler all had career years.. since then they haven't been able to get back to that level.. so it's possible they are already on a slow decline... how often in 2011 when u see the Sedins or Kesler dominate?? almost nightly.. how often have you seen Sedins or Kesler dominate since then?? once in a while.. 2011 sedins and kesler>>>>>>>>>>>>2013 sedins and kesler.. 2011 edler>>>>>>>>>2013 Edler.... Garrison and Tanev is not better than Salo and Erhoff when healthy.. since this is based on when healthy..... anyone that thinks our 2013 healthy lineup is better than our 2011 healthy lineup needs to wake up and come back to reality... I don't even recall this year a game against a top contender where the Sedin dominated the other team all game.. when in 2011 it happened more often than not.. Pouria
Salo and Erhoff would look good back in Canuck unis.
Pouria
This roster is better when healthy. only thing missing is Ehrhoff on PP, but 5 v 5 Tanev's got him covered. Garrison replaces Salo. Luo had a great year cuz our D was so good.(Didnt make many mistakes) Our 2011 D: Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler-Salo Ehrhoff-Rome This year: Hamhuis-Garrison Edler-Bieksa ??-Tanev On paper they look same, but in 2011 they played better. Forwards 2011 Sedins-Burr Higgins-Kes-Sammy Torres-Lappy-Hansen MayRay-Manny-Glass Now: Sedins-Burr Higgins-Kes-? MayRay-Roy-Hansen Weise-Lappy-Kassain Top 6 to 2011 and bottom 6 tied because of Roy Not much scoring from us this year, so until we score 2011 is better. Bring_Back_Bertuzzi
Yeah exactly, luo is our backup, we obviously have someone in net that is forcing luo to be our backup.. someone better..
goblix
Tough to gauge our team now since it's two games past the deadline and the 10-15 games prior to the deadline were pretty dreadful. People have to remember that LA looked like dreadful last year and they caught fire and made the stanley cup grind looks easy. The main things I see this year opposed to 2011: We are tougher throughout the lineup (Sestito/Pinnizoto, Weise, Kassian, Booth) We have 3 scoring lines and the 4th line of Lapierre / Weise looks to be capable of chipping in a couple. Fewer games in the season (veterans benefit more due to milage). We shall see how this team goes, Go Canucks Go
Mookie Wilson
it looks better on paper but if you watch them play its not even close. sedins aren't as good as they were kesler will get injured again not as good defense as 2011 luo was in top 5 in the nhl for save % and GAA now hes our backup
etsen3
No. And our competition is a lot better than in 2011 as well.
JE14
We will go far if Kesler plays well. Simple as that.

spook007
That's great and all...but what's the point of having a crash-the-net Forward in your top 6 if that player has a hard enough time scoring a goal, let alone multiple goals and at a steady pace
africaboombutta
Umm..is this the same "Erhoff" who was a -11 in the playoffs in the 2010/2011? Or is this the same "Salo" that was a "powerplay specialist" with 5 points in 20 games in the playoffs. Please CDC, get off the whole Erhoff and Salo were saviors of this team. Doesn't anyone realize that our PP, which was deadly in 2011, included Kesler. If you do a simple "google" of powerplay percentages you get the following link: http://canucksarmy.com/2013/3/7/canucks-power-play-struggles-newell-brown-daniel-sedin-shot-rate-what-happened-to-vancouvers-power-play In short: Basically with Ryan Kesler on the shelf the Canucks are down their highest volume shooter with the man-advantage. That's tough enough, because you're ultimately going to have a less effective shooter replacing his shots, but it's also only half the story here. How can we judge our powerplay when Ryan "powerplay" Kesler isn't even dressing? I refuse to put the blame on the d-men - you can't make an honest assessment of our PP until you have all your guys back. Recall: the second PP unit (without Kesler) in 2011 was absolutely useless. Losing With Pride
I think people under estimate Ehrhoff's contribution to our offense especially our power player. He wasn't too bad defensively either... Also, Salo was healthy for once.
Peaches
This years team is good. They definitely have a decent shot at the cup. But that 2011 team..... that was magical.
GLASSJAW
It's not about the individual skill of the players.. If we're looking at it like that, then sure we're better this year. What was so special about the 2011 team was that they knew they were the best and played like they were the best. They understood that nobody could possibly beat them if they were on their game. Does this team have that mindset? No, not even close.
Sea2Sky Country
if they can make it through the very tough western conference and get to game 7 of the SCF they're better than the 2011 team. until then, let's all enjoy the ride, playoffs are going to be amazing with this group! Canucks_Hockey_101
I was going over our lines this evening and I slotted in all of our injured players into the lineup. If we get hot at the right time I think this team HEALTHY is better than the team in 2011. Roy gives us a legit third line that can score and our fourth line is much tougher. Check out the line combos below, do you agree or disagree? Sedin Sedin Burrows Raymond Kesler Booth Higgins Roy Hansen Weise Lappiere Kassian/Sestito Bieksa Edler Hamhuis Garrison Ballard Tanev Schnieder Luongo
