After the Canucks clawed back his salary last summer, you have to think that Raymond will try to get the contract he deserves after playing really well so far this season. Our most consistent and dangerous forward after the Sedins, if you ask me. Looking absolutely lights-out with Hansen on his other wing, with a speedy center they are a devastatingly effective forechecking unit. The issue is, can we afford to bring Raymond back with the cap going down. Obviously there are some problems there because we will be right up against it again and Raymond is due a considerable raise.

I think it'd be a major loss if we didn't bring him back. If we were to go with the contract of Luongo, or Booth, or Ballard, over re-signing Raymond, that would be unfortunate. I'd hope Gillis and Gilman would have more sense, and be better with the cap, than that. Even if it necessitates a buyout for someone else, Raymond should be our top UFA priority when it comes to getting an extension done.

Of all our forwards this season, only Hansen and Raymond showed consistency when our lines are battered with injuries. Higgins have been showing a bit more impact now but overall, I'd say that Raymond contributed a lot more

There wasn't any sarcasm. You were quite obviously being serious, and are now backpedalling because you've been ridiculed for your hilarious comment.

I think we have other assests we can move like Ballard and Booth before we just let Raymond go. I think he's learned from the big money he got before that he won't ask for a hug contract. Maybe something similar to Higgins.

Booth+Ballard will be gone, Raymond and (hopefully) Roy will stay. Rounds out our lineup more.

Sedins - finesse but not speedy.
Burrows+Kesler - a mix of speed and skill.
Kassian - becoming a power foward mold
Raymond - Speedy finesse player.

I think every top 6 needs that speedy guy.

Considering we kept Mason Raymond over our former first rounder Michael Grabner....I don't see them letting him go, anyone that doesn't see that Mason Raymond is dedicated to the Canucks & that the Canucks are equally dedicated to him is just blind.

I would agree with this. There is a few pieces I would have to belive get moved out of Vancouver while Raymond stays put.

As much as I have a hatred for Mason Raymond, this year, he's proved me wrong and he's out of my doghouse now.. Although I may want to see him play another 82 game season just before my opinions switch.

Won't miss him or his 16 points in 51 career playoff games (fail).
He's always been one of our most useless players in the playoffs.

Time to bring a true 2nd line winger onto the team this summer. Get rid of Booth + Raymond.

We're losing 13.75 million once we get rid of Booth, Ballard and Luongo. We can definitely afford to offer MayRay 2-2.5 million of the 15 we would then have available.

I'd keep Raymond around for atleast 2 more seasons, at his current salary.

He is too streaky for more.

It depends. With higgins signed it seems as tho raymond won't be with us anymore. Also I think with the way gillis has run the show, he'll be looking to add grit.

Raymond is a fringe second line player who is soft and there are enough of those type players on the Canucks, and having him play on the second line just eats up a spot for Jensen. Which I'm not convinced that Jensen is a good fit to play with kesler but he brings a similar(ish) offensive component that Raymond does at an entry level contract

The third line is looking real set with wingers Higgins and Hanson, and Hanson is also due for a raise in after next year and will most likely be offered 2.5-3 mil.

I would honestly like to see Gaunce on the second or centering the third line next year given he's ready:

Sedin ---------- Sedin -------- Burrows
Gaunce/Roy - Kesler -------- Kassian
Higgins ------- Roy/Gaunce - Hansen
? --------------- Lappy --------- Weise

But either way, the realistic call is that the Canucks need better second line players, have to get rid of Booth, Ballard, and Luongo so they will have cap room for press boxers and Raymond just doesn't fit/ is less valuable than Hansen.

It's the evolution of a hockey team, and a hockey player.

Throw Raymond on a young or rebuilding team like the Flames, he is a 1st liner, and a leader.

He has been through the ultimate in adversity and will set a great example.

He lives in Cochrane

I fully expect this to happen.

It's sad and I wish it didn't have to be like this.

Problem is, who would cost less that could play on the 2nd line?

He also needs Schroeder back up, it was one of the bright spots this year (how the line played) but no we have Ebbet.... LOL

Move Kesler to wing, sign Roy, Schroeder/Ebbett get the 3rd line center, unless Canucks sign someone else for a good value. Or if Roy is asking for to much sign a decent 2nd line center from free agency.

It's the end of Raymond. Even if they offload Ballard and Luongo somehow, there's no way to fit him under the cap and still fill out a roster.

Gillis cut him on his last contract. Raymond is having a decent year and this is his only chance to cash out. He'll easily get more than Higgins and as a UFA will probably get 3.5 million+ from someone. Canucks can't match that.

He would have to take a real hometown discount.

Other GMs are not stupid, u think the GMs out there will throw 3.5 millon to Mason Raymond? Let Raymond tests his free agent market, he will find out very quickly that he is not worth a penny more than our team is willing to pay him. Of course, if skating fast along the board counts for points, then sure, gives him 4 or 5 millions coz he is good at that.

Raymond is playing well enough that the team should consider re-signing him.

His production for this season puts him on a par with what he did in 09 - 10. He could likely be re-signed for a similar amount as he did in 10 - 11.

Yea he played good but the fact is our roster already has a good top six. I believe he can get more money + time to play. It can also be a win win play if we get a trade for whatever we might need.. such as prospect or picks.
