Check out the score board from last night. Minny loses 2-0. Another loss. It wasn't that long ago that people were talking about Vancouver losing it's grip on first in their division. 6 points at this stage of the season is going to be pretty hard for Minny to make up.
Spending all that cash on two players has been a flop. People talk about Luongo's deal, what about the Minny deal? If Minny doesn't make it people are going to be freaking in Minny. That deal is fresh.
I'm glad Gillis and Co have stayed the course. It looks like another division win for Vancouver and home ice advantage.

Not a flop... NJD and NSH are both out of the playoffs but the spenders (MIN) are in a playoff spot.

They're still in the playoffs but they're collapsing fast.

It's quite funny really.

They're missing the dynamic elite teams have... Canucks, Penguins, Blackhawks, etc can all win games with players injured. Minny can't.

Not a flop at all. Those are two of their best players; without them, the Wild wouldn't even be in playoff contention.

they added two new pieces to build around. After this season, they can build some more.
Cup contender? no way. two players don't make a cup winning team.
but from under 8 to above 8 is going in the right step.

you can talk about those two deals but who will be laughing in a few years when our core declines/retires? Oilers and Wild are stepping up their game and we will suffer. Sure we have a few good prospects but nothing like they have.

in the post-cap season, you can't expect to stay in the top 8 forever unless you are the red wings.(and even they might be out this year :( )

Not a flop at all. Minni were horrible in years gone by and are now a playoff team. Of all people, Nuck fans should know that it takes time for new players to adjust to their new team. Minni has made a lot of changes this year and are finally a decent team, with a great group of prospects. They will be challenging the Nucks before the Oilers get it together.

Besides, their final games are against easier teams than the Canucks final games.
Lots of Flames, Oilers, Bluejackets and Avalanche. They probably won't catch the Nucks, but it will be close.

It was getting close, but now they need to be near perfect in the final 8 games to and us being mediocare for them to catch us.

I'm just happy that (hopefully) we'll win the final North West Division title to finish the streak. And also happy that we won't see their boring team too much next year.

Altho, a very interesting 1st round match up could be a nice way to finish NW division!

Agreed, they have missed the playoffs for a while now and their finnally able to make the cut. I don't see a real problem unless both the players get injured at the same time, lol

You put it better than I. How ever spending that money you'd thing your return would have better value even with Nashville sending so much Weber.
I still see it as a flop, they've made the play offs in the past with less.

If they don't make the playoffs it will be a flop!!! Speaking of which how many more wins does Van need to win the NW division/ grab that 3rd overall spot?

Minnesota has one fewer win than Vancouver.
Suter and Parise are home grown players that wanted to play for the Wild.
They are elite players that are the core going forward.
Pominville gives them 1-2 C strength.
Heatley sucks but one more year and he is out of there.
I like Minny and they play the Nucks hard.

Nobody freaked out about the Luongo and Sundin debacles.although it is easy to read between the lines that Gillis is now feeling the heat and that is as it should be.

I think its somewhere around the lines of 5-2-1.

5more wins and an OT/SO loss to clinch as of right now... So need to go 5-2-1 assuming Minny sweeps the board with their remaining 8 games.

both teams has 8 games left. Nucks has 6 more points. I think 4/8 wins should win the division

If minny won their 8 games and Canucks only won 4 they would be 2 points ahead of us... if the canucks won 5 minny would win the tiebreak due to their ROW being higher. So 5 wins with one OT/SO loss would be the worst the Canucks could do to take the division in the event of minny running the table.

Yes unfortunately many were talking of Vancouver losing the division to Minnesota, feel free to have a little more confidence in the Canucks.

Minnesota has added two exceptional players, the team has some very good pieces as well to support the core. Vancouver will take the division, Minnesota makes the Playoffs, and anything can happen once you get to the Playoffs.

But Minnesota did very well to sign Suter,Parise. You cannot consider those two signings as anything other than commitment from ownership to bring a contender to Minny. No flop.

The division looks good for us. For this year.

The Suter and Parise signings have been great for the Wild. They are veteran compliments to a young core Minny will be developing over the next few years. In fact, Minny has perhaps surpassed expectations, given they have so many young players in significant roles. The Suter and Parise signings were more about the years to come rather than the immediate future. The future is bright for Minnesota.

But for Vancouver? I'm not saying we'll have to start rebuilding within a few years, but it does look as though Minny is better set up for the future.
