I would say yes he has and he should be the starter going forward. I remember many CDCers were like watch Schneider fail in net given too many games at the beginning of the season lol!

Honestly, I know Schneider's a good goalie and a starter but I would rather see Luongo in net

(Just my opinion though, no slamming please)

Who would've thought that the Canucks goaltender after Luongo would be even better? Cory Schneider is a Vezina calibre goaltender and will be for years to come.

Personally, I never doubted he could be a starter in this league. Too me it has always been a case of who holds more value and upside to our team. I tend to think Schneider does. In no way should that discount what Lou has done for this team or his quality as a goalie.

Most likely they were talking about a FULL season, as it stands he has played great this season but look at the amount of games played the past 3 season for each player

Schneider
2010-11 - 25gp
2011-12- 33gp
2012-13-25gp

Luongo
2010-11 60gp
2011-12 55 gp
2012-13 17gp

Schneider has played 8 games less this season than he did last, although in a shortened season. If he was the undisputed 1st he would have started a higher percentage of games.

Luongo's 2010/11 and 2011/12 gp is what a starter can expect to play(in a full season) and he has yet to play 55 or 60 games(Below Luongo's seaon average) in a season, so no he has not proven he can stand up to the rigorous demands of the starter position yet and keep up a good standard of play, that is what next season is going to prove.
Playoffs is another story, Since Luongo is critiqued as a playoff choker, this year schneider is most likely the starter and he will have to get us into the 2nd round or better, with as little goal support as canuck goalies are used to in the playoffs, most likely due to the bipolar nature of canuck fans if we do not get out of the 1st round schneider will either get excuses made for him or Roasted by Luongo lovers and the media will have a heyday with speculation if it was better to go with Luongo or not and it will be fodder for trade schneider speculations

Ya he can get traded to another team in need of a goalie where they give us a scoring winger or centre and a draft pick. We could easy fetch more in trade with Schneider then Luu and still have awesome goaltending. Lack could be back up and after a couple yrs playing behind Luu we can go through all this again, but by then luu will be 37 and we will want to go younger then.

Whoa, getting a little ahead of yourself. Luongo has established himself over many years. Schneider has been a starting goalie for part of a partial season.

I have enough faith that he can be out starter from here on in, but to go on something more concrete than faith, you'll have to wait until he actually plays in a full regular season and playoffs.

In before mini mod Elvis15 comes telling us where to post

As for Schneider, hes our goalie of the future, and i believe that hes always shown that. Plus hes younger, and i feel more comfortable with him in net in high pressure games than Lu. Management knows all this and they wont let Schneider go. Lu of course is a very good goalie too though.

My question is why?
Do you prefer Luongo's style of play?
Do you think we stand a better chance of playoff success with him?
Do you simply just like him more?
Is it something else?

I dont get it.

Hahaha is there really even a discussion about this? We are really pretending that Luongo is even close to Schneider...in 2013 :picard: ??  this site is 10/10 for laughs... The next thread we should make is, "is Henrik the starting center?" Then inside the OP will be, "or do you think LaPierre is catching up to him?"

You could argue that you feel a lot more confident in Luongos proven track record as a top goalie in the league, and Schneider (while extremely impressive) has a very small sample size and may not maintain his current play over a large sample of games.

Great then maybe we will get more than draft picks when Gillis tries to unload his massive cancerous tumor of a contract.

Hopefully he plays his way out of a buyout

Schneider's value is increasing by the game.

If Luongo can not be moved for asset(s) then Cory will be the one that goes.

Seems like the logical move to me, anyhow...

I like his resume more and I think we are cup contenders with him playing, the man that used to win the Canucks games. And I think he wants to both play and re-prove himself to the fans of Vancouver

He also has a track record of playing inconsistent and folding in important games, so?

Bingo! While Luongo might have a better track record than Schneider, he also has had games which he got shelled in important games especially in the playoffs. Schneider on the other hand hasn't. That 'track' argument is irrelevent. Theres always a good and bad side to it for Luongo as we have seen and we havent seen the bad side in Schneider yet in the playoffs

Schneider's stats against LA in the 2012 playoffs: 1.31 GAA, .960 SV%

He won 1 of the 3 games, he only let in 4 goals total. Had he started against LA, the series may have gone longer than 5 games.

Vancouver lost the series, but it sure as hell had nothing to do with Schneider.

I think you should stick to watching cricket or something. You put emotion and player favoritism over the actual fact of Schneider being the better goalie, now and in the future. Get over it, and stop hoping for the miracle of Luongo taking over, because it's not happening.

On a second note, Schneider could play 82 games for the next 5 seasons and it still wouldn't be a big enough sample size for them.. Everyone has a man crush on Luongo and it absolutely leaves me flabbergasted. If people in Vancouver had memories better than goldfish they would already have moved on. Anyone that knows anything about goal tending, and the actual game of hockey itself would put aside the man crush and realize what's best for this team. That wouldn't be the appropriate action for a canucks fan though. It's the same old, always.
