trading Cory Schneider

Recommended Posts

The reason it makes no sense to you is because its not what you want to believe. You want Luongo traded, and you want Schneider to stay here. So you will resist any logic that shows otherwise.

A common way to do this is to uphold any logic that supports trading Luongo to keep Schneider, and simply ignore the evidence to the contrary like it doesnt exist.

If you want the real truth, you must look at ALL the evidence. Not just the little bits you want to see.

1)Luongo is 34 has 9 years left on his albatross contract. He has a 5.3 cap hit. The new CBA says we have to eat that cap hit even after he retires until the contract expires. If we sell Luongo, the new team eats half and we STILL eat half. These are the facts.

2) Cory Schneider is 27 years old, and has 2 more years on a fantastic 4mil dollar deal. He is in the running to be nominated for the Vezina and most of us feel it stands to reason he will be nominated and/or win a Vezina one day.

3) Eddie Lack is 25. Some say he is ready, some say he would be a mediocre NHL goalie at best. Regardless, hes no joke. He is a bonifide goaltender who could play for us. Up to Luongo or Schneider standards? I doubt it but who knows.

There is the current objective evidence. Seems pretty simple doesnt it? Unfortunately, life isnt about the right now when it comes to 400 million dollar high profile sports franchises. You have to juggle whats happening now as opposed to making sure in the future you dont turn into a joke.

So here is the logic we now have to use from a business point of view, because to fans its a sport but to those who provide the sport, have to run a business to get that entertainment to us.

This whole goaltending situation turns out not to be about Luongo, Schneider or Lack. The defining feature that leads me to want to trade Schneider is.............drum roll please..............Henrik and Daniel Sedin.

These guys are the difference between a good team and a contender. No twins and no cup. Both are turning 33 this year. Even Kesler is turning 29 this year.

We have about 2 years left on our true window with the Sedin core to win a stanley cup. Unless we can get primary scorers to help Kesler when the twins come down to being 55 point second liners.

Luongo has a cap hit of only 5.3mil and his true 6.7 mil salary is for another 4 years. He will play for that. But by age 38 will he be good enough to want to play longer than this? He will only be making 3 mil, then 1 mil for the rest of the years. I say its probable he retires.

If we keep Schneider, at age 29 he will be demanding 7 mil or walk out as a UFA . Every other goalie of his calibre is making as much and with a vezina and /or cup on his resume, he will get it . Either here or elsewhere. So in fact, Schneider is going to be even more expensive than Luongo.

We cant get anything for Luongo with the stupid contract. We couldnt even get AHL Schrivens , and two mid level to low level seconds for the clown. Aqua man is certainly not taking on another insane contract to just throw money out the window to buy it out. Forget it. He spends to the cap every year. He has not cheaped out on us. He will not let Gillis take a bunch of junk salary to get rid of Luongo.

So, If we just dump Luongo on waivers and or take a nothing package and eat half his cap hit, or .............we trade an extremely valuable Schneider for a package of goodness and just play luongo.

Luongo can then get a 'concussion' in his last 4 years like pronger /savard and go on LTIR to avoid the stupid cap hit instead of him retiring.

Luongo/Lack plus the goodie package for Schneider is just a way better deal than

Schneider (soon to be 7mil for 8 years by the way) plus 1/2 Luongos cap hit.

Its a no brainer to me. Luongo can still play 95% as good as schneider. He will last as long as the twins do. Keep him. Trade Schneider.

Why even trade the better goalie? Over the last 3 seasons here are the stats for both

LOU GAA 2.28

SP .920

Cory GAA 2.09

SP .931

It is clear and apparent who has the betters stats...How much more do you have to get in a Schneider trade to compensate for such outstanding goaltending. If building a winning team starts from the net out and Cory being younger and cheaper, its a no brainer that the team keeps Schneider. Although Lou's stats are very good, Schneider's are outstanding.

Lou's stats are very good based on 2010-11 season GAA 2.11. Last season 2.41 This season 2.34

Schneiders from season to season are better GAA 2.23 Last Season 1.96 This season 2.09

In 2010-11 Schneiders SP was.001 better than Lou but faced more shots thus a higher GAA Dumping Lou's 5.33 million cap hit frees up a lot of dollars to find an elite player to help us ,and then there is the return we get in trade.. and we still have the goalie with the better GAA and SP.

schneider's stats are elevated compared to luongo for several reasons:

2007-2008 Luongo had to play injured and tired, our back up was no good, he ran out of gas, schneider has always been rested, has never had to play more than 35 games in a year. If you play morem your stats will drop

The guy who wrote that number didn't offer an opinion, he just said, Schneider will ask for 7 million, as if he knew and based his arguments on that assumption. The cap will restrict remunerations, contracts teams have committed to will dictate how much teams can pay. Contracts like Bryz, Luongo etc will scare teams from huge and long term contracts for goaltenders. What he will ask for is anyones guess but 5 might be a more realistic number. I expect Canucks to extend his contract and believe Schneids will remain a Canuck and take less to do so.

based on the logic

Agreed.

What I find interesting of those who seem to have ot BASH Schnieder because they love lou is their state of delusion. here is a list of their arguments from day 1

1. Schnieder's not ready he hasn't proven he can be a starter - well he was 26 and had won at every level and alot of goalies get shots at being number 1 well before that (around 20, 21 yrs of age), ie Lou did. Here's some more. Fleury, Price, Ward, Broduer, Roy, on and on).

2. They dont look at both goalie's stats, and when you force them to, they find some data mining, revisionist arguments to suggest that Schnieder's stats as a Canuck have not been as good or more often than not better than Lou's both in regular season and playoffs.

3. They suggest well he can't carry us in the playoffs, even when his stats (while limited) say otherwise, as does his play, and he can't really prove it till he's given the rope right? thats what's happening this year, contrary to their delusions

4. They suggest when the team hangs him out to dry, even though he was on pace to be top 3 in every category in the NHL for starters prior to yesterday, that he's not good - hmm would they say that about rask? lundqvuist? lol...

5. They ignore the FACT that Lou effectively asked for a trade after being pulled last year vs LA, continually suggest we might trade Schnieder - again delusion

6. They ignore the FACT that Lou said he'd redo his contract if it meant he could be moved. Some how this translates into he's not being traded? Not sure how they see that but whatever

7. They ignore the fact that the man was defeated, almost crying because he WASN'T traded from this city. Ignoring the simple conclusion related to number 5 - that he has wanted out since last year.

8. They ignore the reality that you really don't want to keep a player who's mentally checked out of the city. Sure he will play hard but he's waiting to go now, again they think all of a sudden he'll want to stay - its not just about playing, its about wanting out of this fishbowl.

Keep ignoring reality guys.

You are ignoring the reality and just picking out pieces you want to believe. You arent telling the full story.

He never wanted to leave here but AV gave his job to Schneider. Schneider was supposed to be moved remember?

Luongo gets furious and demands a trade. A trade based on the fact he would be a bench warmer. Not because he hates the city. He says its time to move on. Why/ Because he hates the city? No. Its because he no longer has a job.

The CBA changes and now his trade value is zero. He now says he will do anything to help the team win. Thats par for the course.

If Gillis trades Schneider, is Luongo going to cry a river and still demand a trade? Not a chance. He will be our goalie and explain the very obvious like I am explaining it to you.

Now, to be fair...........would he go play in Florida if he had the chance (and their teams had a real chance at a cup /) ? Probably. Its where his wifes family is from.

But we all know it aint happening . So Luongo still wants to go ANYWHERE ? Wrong. He just wants to be a starter while he still has the time left in his career. Its got nothing to do with bolting from Vancouver

So it aint delusion to trade Schneider. Not at all.

keep telling yourself that and thank you for proving my point...ignoring reality you say? hmm

"AV GAVE his job to Schnieder"

you see the bold comment, this is the delusion I speak of. No one gives a job of a 6 million dollar goalie away - he loses it.

now go splash some cold water on your face and wake up
