Well he's pretty close to 5M. I'd say he's on par with Brooks Laich who makes 4.5M. And being taller or more physical than another player does not warrant a higher salary. What Bozak lacks in size, he makes up for it in his skill and skating.

Laich is an everyman. He plays wing as well as center, he is a heart and soul guy who grinds out games. He hits hard and is tough as anyone on the ice. He's like their burrows.

Bozak is not a good comparable to Laich. They aren't the same player at all. Bozak may have more 'skill' but he is not as gritty nor as tough, and add to that Bozak has yet to break 50 points whereas Laich has beaten Bozak's career best 3 times. Laich is older, more experienced, grittier, and not injury prone, and thus is worth more money IMO.

Bozak may have a promising future, but as yet he still hasn't proven himself to be a $5m player. A shortened season where he is "on pace" for exactly 50 points is hardly elite, and at 27 he probably isn't going to improve much from here.

And puts up only one less point than Henrik Sedin - 41. That's top line center numbers.

He is not defensively apt enough to play the extra minutes that Henrik and other #1 centers around the league does, but he's a rookie. Next year, he will have to take on a bigger role on the team, as either Grabovski or Bozak will be gone. He may hit a wall known as the sophomore slump with the added responsibility. But this kid is a player, no doubt. He will be the #1 center for the Maple Leafs in the next coming years.

No he's not.

bozak is a player that creates chances..he is a natural goal scorer and bozak can only get better..imnot a scout but there is talent there..he is smaller but he is andy macdoald type...he is worth 4 million a year...i would swap him for lungo any day and then some..

dunno why this thread was bumped but bozak is a pretty good player. as stated above he creates chances, has offensive awareness but he really hasn't proven much to call any shots. then again, most of his time on the leafs was under ron wilson and that guy nearly killed him and nazem kadri. the leafs just aren't all that great defensively, but under carlyle, i think numbers will improve across the board, but 5m.... i don't think so, unless that's the asking price to get out of toronto

Good for him and Leaf fans. As much as I hate the Leafs, their fans deserve a lot better then they have been getting. Kudos to Burke for honestly making some smart trades that really helped shape the team. That said, ownership also made a terrific decision getting rid of Burke when they did. Now that they have the assets, they need a GM that is patient and won't make rash decisions. Nonis is perfect. Giving Bozak anything more than $3.5M is an overpayment, good that Nonis understands this and will not allow players to handcuff the team by handing out ridiculous contracts.

I watched a bit more leafs this year and nizam is actually pretty good. 5 mill? No, but I would say he's worth 4.

pretty damn sure Leafs would throw 5m at Roy before they throw 5m at Bozak...
and yes, I have a feeling that Roy will sign with Leafs this summer... Toronto close to his home in Ottawa, Leafs still looking for 1C, so they can put Kadri at 2C and let him continue to progress... it's a win win for both sides

The Leafs might be in a pickle with their franchise very soon, as both Kessel and Phaneuf's contracts are also coming up. Sure, the Leafs have the cap room to sign Roy, but they have no idea what kind of money Phaneuf and Kessel will be looking for, or whether or not they even want to re-sign.

If memory serves, he played junior in Victoria? Maybe he would take a discount to play in Vancouver?

If thats what he's expecting, hope he enjoys playing in Europe next year.

Won't be paid that in NHL, he's proven nothing.

*** Kesler (5 mill) notched 41 goals as part of his career resume.

Bozak, what have you done?

Actually, Kesler notched 41 goals the season after he signed but the season before he had 75 points.

However, Bozak will get close to 5M/yr., a similar center like Mike Fisher signed for 5 year 21M back in 2008. Relatively speaking, Canucks really did get hometown deals on their top centers

FWIW, the tweet never says anything about him 'demanding' 5 mill. Dreger has been 'told' that Bozak will command that much.

I think the FAs are in for a shock this season. Unless any of the cap-floor teams are going to pony up for talent (and why would they? they haven't before) then sticker prices are going to fall. We'll see a couple of big names go the first few days and then silence til august IMO.

I agree with this.. there wont be the huge dollar, long-term deals that we are used to seeing in July. Mind you even a million per is pretty huge dollars in the real world :/

lol @ people calling Bozak bad. He's actually quite good if you actually watch him. That being said, 5mil is an over payment. This guy is like 4mil tops on a good day. Probably more like 3.5 as it stands.

By the way, can I actually see the rod?
