Has Alex Burrows Finally Become a Finesse Player?

This season he seems to have less jump, spunk or that pizaz that earned him huge kudos and a massive contract extension. Quite impressive for an undrafted projected 3rd line checker/grinder.

Alex Burrows just looks slow and not himself. I'm not one to ever doubt Burrows because he has always proved the critics wrong but I've been thinking...

Remember when Burrows was in beast mode? He had the total package. His game was multi-faceted where he'd agitate the star players into taking retarded penalties. His defensive reliability was legendary and his work ethic Hansen'esque.

I felt ashamed last night when he jumped on Backeses Back. C'mon, give St.Louis a 3rd Man In penalty.

Even worse is we didn't get to witness the walloping Ballard was gonna give to Backes. Has it come to Alex Burrows refusing to fight anymore?

My question is this: Has Alex Burrows become a finesse player allowing him to disregard all the other layers to his game. Seriously, he hasn't fought in forever. At times struggles to back check. Looks like he's slower this year than previous.

I just want to see the Alex Burrows of old. Where he did it all. I'm worried he has gotten an "inflated head"

Burrows is playing the smartest, most efficient, most creative hockey of his life. When playing with the Sedins he works the cycle as well as the twins do. His puckhandling skills have evolved and his hockey sense is amazing. He may be the team's most reliable player, game in and game out.

And THAT is all.

He's arguably are most important penalty killer, so he can't take bad penalties anymore. His goal scoring hasn't been unreal this year but it's there. He is still crashing the net and this getting the punishment from defenders by doing so. He still chirps and receives payback, he just does it more discreetly.

I think I'd rather refer to Burrows' change as he's getting classier. None of that Kesler-esque "your mom" joke kinda stuff anymore. He looks more like he's getting ready to draw blood on the way to the cup. Fast, decisive, and starving.

...Did OP even watch the last 2 games?

Burrows is all about work,

My lasting moment of him will be in the playoffs on a multiple roll of 5 on 3 power plays. He went down to block a shot, and you could see for just a moment he could have stayed on the ice and not got back up, instead he forced himself back up and into the play.

I am on both sides here. I have had no problem with his play this year but jumping on Backes' back when he was taking off his helmet to fight Ballard (who does fine against Backes historically) Was a stupid move. I don't see it as defending his teammates at all. It wasn't like Backes jumped Ballard, they were squaring off prepared to go.

Just a bad move, but it doesn't erase all the good he's done this year. Forget about it and move on.

Something just doesn't seem right with him this season. Missing some spark. Might just be a case of as the Sedins go so does Burrows. Hated seeing him jumping in there last night but i understand why he felt the need to but man it just looked bad on his part. Hopefully he can step his game up as we'll need him. He has his big payday now i can understand why people would have some concerns with how he's played.
