TheRick Posted April 18, 2013 Share Posted April 18, 2013 Given how in last seasons MLB playoffs, where they used that format throughout their post season, (5 game series, 2 away, 3 home; 7 game series, 2 home, 3 away, 2 home), it wouldn't surprise me if the NHL decides to follow format for the following reasons: 1) Saves on travel and cost of travel. 2) Hopefully condenses playoff schedule? Reason why I won't like it is because if a series ends in 5 games, the team that has the home ice advantage loses the extra home game especially if the home ice advantage team wins the Stanley Cup in 5 games, they won't be able to celebrate the win with their fans! The Brahma Bull Posted April 18, 2013 Share Posted April 18, 2013 I hate that format so much. frack travel costs. Most series, especially a Finals matchup is going to go more than 5 games. I'd be pissed off if I was the team that gets the 3 games because those home fans are much less likely to see the win on home ice (if they were to win it in 6 games).. I don't like it because if you start with home ice advantage, but drop one at home, you may never get the chance to play in front of your home crowd again. Eastern teams have no idea what it's like to travel like our Western teams. I loved the fact that Van/Bos had to fly coast to coast to play, except for the night that Glee was at the TD Garden. We Western teams do it all year, so we are a little used to it. They already move the time of the game up for Eastern audience's and make us play a late afternoon game. 2-2-1-1-1 if perfect. Also with NBC deciding when games are played I believe in an early round of the play-oofs 2 teams played back to back ona Sat/Sun. Let all go back to whgen NBC was not interested in hockey, Eastern teams on one night, Western teams the next night.... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
