Most overrated television shows

To extend on the point I was getting to above, that is why BBC shows, in general, are seen to be so much better than those in the US. They do not overstay their welcome.

For example, one of my favourite BBC comedies was Extras. However, you can tell that Ricky Gervais progressed the character as long as he should have. It's one of my favourite shows, yet it really would have grown stale and old if he extended it another 1 or 2 seasons.

To be honest, Big Bang Theory would have been better had they limited it to maybe 3 seasons. Even a once favourite show of mine, Community, would have been viewed as a truly fantastic tv show of it's time, had they actually limited it to 2 or 3 seasons. As referenced in the season 3 episode when the group went to see a "psychiatrist", Community college usually lasts only 2 years. At this point, it's starting to grow stale.

Very, very few shows continue to be funny during a 8-9 seasons run.

Seinfeld and the office managed ^_^

They absolutely have/had (The Office this season and last can be argued though). That's why I said that very few tv shows can make the run past 3 seasons and still remain funny/"relevant". When you truly look at fantastic tv shows over time that went 5-9 seasons, the number of great shows is such a small number compared to the amount of utter garbage.

Just name some shows you find overrated (except Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, or Dexter cause you're INSANE if you say one of those ;)).

A premature one for me is Suits. I saw about six episodes and was bored as hell through every single one of them. I never saw what was so great about the show or the characters (and Rick Hoffman has a face a mother couldn't even love).

Modern Family sucks. The characters are just annoying as it gets now. Can't believe this show still has a fan base (unless people tune in occasionally to see Sarah Hyland like me).

The Walking Dead had a good first season and some of the second season looked promising but I'm pretty much bored and on my phone through the entire episode until the last four minutes or so. The characters are all garbage and I honestly do not care when any of them die (ON THE SHOW!) This pretty much sums the show up:

And I never laugh at Community. But I really don't laugh at much of anything.

you must be a hoot to be around

Any of the aimed at 12-16 year old girl demographic "dancing with your american idol's got talent" garbage that keeps knocking actually good shows off the air.

Teenage girls of North America, you are ruining television. Stop it.

Homeland! The show is absolutely ridiculous, and I don't like a single character. Some extremely cliche elements for a show too often touted as "groundbreaking".

I cannot agree with Sopranos or Breaking Bad in this thread (especially if you only watched four episodes of the latter), and I think Community is still a great show. But other than that, I agree with most of the other nominees.

Remember when Big Bang was about this relatable group of guys that were so awkward you wanted them to succeed, but could relate to their failures? Well, now three of the four have girlfriends, two of which are pretty smokin'. Definitely lost some of its appeal.

And I never liked Friends.

Alright, I'll be the first to say it.

Family Guy

Even speaking as a big Family Guy fan and an even bigger fan of Seth MacFarlane after he totally castrated Brian..it seems like...I agree with you. He's turned Brian into a docile wimp when he used to be so militant and strong willed. I didn't like that at all.

The Soprano's, save yourself a good portion of your life and watch Goodfellas instead.

Goodfellas is great, Sopranos is a masterpiece. Can't think of a better drama in tv history. Phenomenal acting, rich and layered story, intelligent and hilarious writing.

Minus the first season, which has major production issues, this show is an absolute gem. Strongly encourage everyone watches it if they haven't.

Wilfred is probably the worst show I have ever seen, some guy in a dog suit walking around... too stupid, too unrealistic

edit: and for the record Suits is a pretty sweet show I like it so far

Hate to say it, but Game of Thrones is starting to join this list for me. I've yet to be impressed by this season. Hopefully it starts getting better quickly. The next episode sounds promising.

I don't think a shaky start to the third season makes a show "overrated". This is the season where everything really hits the fan so it should pick up.

I also HATE Corner Gas. Its painfully unfunny.

I used to be a lot more stuck up when I used to watch movies, tv shows, or listen to music. So when something was popular, I would often go against the grain to be "the cool guy (often annoying guy)." So obviously, I said the same thing about Corner Gas.However, the older I got, the less I cared about certain things. Where in the past I would have never listened to Katy Perry, I actually find it quite fun sometimes. All this said, I could not agree with you more on Corner Gas. Out of every show around that I have been negative about, I have giving this show the benefit of the doubt more times than I should have. I have attempted to watch a whole episode probably upwards of 20 times, usually stopping after 10 minutes. It is absolutely awful. I live in the prairies and do not find one thing even remotely grin worthy. I honestly go into it thinking positively about it, and everytime going "Why did I do this again?"My wife is the sweetest, least cynical person I have met. She has come in when I have been watching it, and honestly said the last time, "I would rather I caught you watching porn."Corner Gas is, as you said, painfully unfunny.
