Most overrated television shows

As much as I like Doctor Who. Recently it's been quite uninteresting/uninspired. Yeah, the premise of the show is super-formulaic, that hasn't changed since it's re-emergence.

Premise = Large crisis, bad things happen, the Doctor fixes everything by the end of the episode. Rinse and repeat.

Plus, somehow it's become quite popular in North America. It's pretty much doomed.

I used to be a lot more stuck when I used to watch movies, tv shows, or movies. So when something was popular, I would often go against the grain to be "the cool guy (often annoying guy)." So obviously, I said the same thing about Corner Gas.However, the older I got, the less I cared about certain things. Where in the past I would have never listened to Katy Perry, I actually find it quite fun sometimes. All this said, I could not agree with you more on Corner Gas. Out of every show around that I have been negative about, I have giving this show the benefit of the doubt more times than I should have. I have attempted to watch a whole episode probably upwards of 20 times, usually stopping after 10 minutes. It is absolutely awful. I live in the prairies and do not find one thing even remotely grin worthy. I honestly go into it thinking positively about it, and everytime going "Why did I do this again?"My wife is the sweetest, least cynical person I have met. She has come in when I have been watching it, and honestly said the last time, "I would rather I caught you watching porn."Corner Gas is, as you said, painfully unfunny.

I don't hate things for being popular, I hate popular things that suck. There is a great deal of popular things that I enjoy. I don't care how many people like it.

I look at music like food, and pop music is like junk food. Formulaic and mass-produced. It can be tasty, and theres nothing wrong with eating it. But if its ALL you eat, its not very good for you.

Corner Gas is just bad. Its painful to watch. The jokes can be seen a mile away, and they're so simplistic and dull that you feel embarrassed for the people who make the show. Yet its marketed as "Good ol' Canadian comedy."

It reminds me of Tim Hortons. Terrible coffee, mediocre donuts, but because its so patriotic in its marketing people eat it up. That and roll up.

You know, this thread really should just be "List movies, tv shows, music, etc that you find to be overrated." Not that you necessary think are terrible (though they might be), just overrated in your eyes. This thread would have a longer life span if changed slightly. Here, I'll start us off.

Movie: Scarface - I do not think it's bad, by any means. I just don't think it's as good as people say it is.

Actors/Actresses: Morgan Freeman - I like him, and he has a terrific voice, but I do not get why people think he is a terrific actor. I think he's good, but just good.

TV Shows (again): 2 and a Half Men - To me, this will go down as the most overrated tv show of all time. Outside of reality tv, this is the worst thing that has been created. Unless, of course, Whitney last 9 years.

I don't think a shaky start to the third season makes a show "overrated". This is the season where everything really hits the fan so it should pick up.

come on, GoT and Breaking Bad are two shows that everybody and their mother overrate to high heaven

Good shows? Yup. Best ever? Not even close. IMDB ratings have them list as #3 and #4 as the best of all time, only behind Planet Earth and The Wire. Ridiculous.

Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad are very, very good shows. Once you get into that territory it becomes subjective. Personal taste leans people to favor show x over show y. You yourself said The Sopranos is one of the greatest shows ever, and a lot of people would disagree with that.

It's not that the show itself is bad since its re-emergence..I actually really liked the LAST Doctor...but more along the lines of what you said. Something goes horribly wrong, and like clockwork the Doc fixes everything by the end of the episode...every episode almost.

Bold 1: Who cares? OF COURSE it's subjective, who caaaares? That's the least interesting justification for an opinion that anyone could possibly come up with. What makes discussion and criticism interesting is CONTEXT(!!!!!!!!). How do/did people arrive at the opinions they have? THAT is what makes things interesting. If someone on here honestly believes Breaking Bad is the best TV show in history, I would be thrilled to read why. Hell, if they think it's even in the top 10, I'd be interested in reading why.

Bold 2: Of course they would. And if I thought anyone would actually read it, I could type on and on and on about why I think so highly of The Sopranos. But what makes threads like these so boring is how nobody seems remotely interesting in dipping beyond "I don't like it because I don't like it"

What exactly are you expecting from a thread likes this?

The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother.

The Walking Dead was always absolute crap. I've more recently given up on How I Met Your Mother, although the show had it's moments, horrible forced plotlines drove me away. The Big Bang Theory is quite bad, and has been especially during the last year or 2, but for some reason I still catch a few episodes of it.

Whatever.. as long as Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother make me chuckle/laugh, then I'm good. I don't care how bad it's gone but it still makes me laugh so I don't care if it's overrated.

I'll never give Glee a chance ever though. I tried watching one episode and I fell asleep, which I shouldn't because they sing in the show so it's suppose to keep me awake but I just fell asleep.

Dexter got boring for me after season 4 or 5. Co-worker said it picked up and got good again so I may watch it one day.

I still watch HIMYM but its time for the season to end. I went back and started watching it on Netflix from the beginning, shows great then! After about 5 seasons it lost its appeal but still fills up 30 minutes of my time when I am bored at home.

OP: You don't like Suits? I found that a great show, isn't a laughing show per say but found it very entertaining.

Basically after season 3-5, all shows seem to get pretty boring.

It reminds me of Tim Hortons. Terrible coffee, mediocre donuts, but because its so patriotic in its marketing people eat it up. That and roll up.

And its at every corner so its easy to access when your too lazy to make your own.

Pretty much agree with this. I still find Two and a Half Men a little funny so I still watch it. HIMYM is starting to feel like its just dragging along, but TBBT is still hilarious for me. Best show.

Everyone kept recommending Community but I never found it to be funny. Guess I'm the type of guy who likes "simpler" humour.

Goodfellas is great, Sopranos is a masterpiece. Can't think of a better drama in tv history. Phenomenal acting, rich and layered story, intelligent and hilarious writing.

Minus the first season, which has major production issues, this show is an absolute gem. Strongly encourage everyone watches it if they haven't.

Like most great shows, The Sopranos took a serious downhill slide after season 4. Im very happy to see that Breaking Bad has not followed this trend thus far and Dexter has recovered itselfpuyewquite nicely with some ridiculous drama that will keep people watching...

Different strokes, then. I liked Breaking Bad's early seasons because it was somewhat within the realm of possibility. I could ALMOST believe what I was watching, even with the silly dialogue and the in-your-face product placement

Recent seasons have totally thrown that out the window, though. The whole narrative relies too heavily on extremes now. The godawful scenes in Hank's office all hang on certain minute details. Like, what if he hadn't left to get coffee? What if he didn't close the blinds/curtains or whatever? The worst episode of the show, for me, was that freight train episode. The bumbling criminals somehow pull off a huge heist, which they were able to set-up perfectly through a bizarre series of events. "Don't worry, it just so happens that this train can't be traced in this narrow part of of the desert that we can be at in no time!" Then they throw in the final kid scene at the end? It was all so orchestrated.

I thought season 6 of the Sopranos was the second best of the show (behind season 4). I know season 5 has its critics though.

I don't mind Matt Smith, don't get me wrong, he's no David Tennant, but the show has seemed incredibly stale since at least halfway through the Amy and Rory phase. Clara is not making things anything better, at least in my opinion.

Do you know if they changed writers or something? (if I was proactive I could just look it up, the internet is marvelous that way)

I almost feel as if it's slowly become Americanized. Something that is easy to digest, not particularly well written, but broad enough for more people to be entertained by it. Maybe I'm just being overprotective of my emotional attachment to my idea of what the show should be?

Anyways, somethings not right with it at the moment.

Glee is extremely overrated.

Yes. What a snooze fest.

No way the walking dead is a great show :) one of the best in awhile imo but two and a half men is overrated ever since Charlie sheen left the show.

I find that people who love The Walking Dead have not seen the many, many better shows that make it look like a pile of crap.

you must be a hoot to be around

I meant I don't laugh at many TV shows.

Hate to say it, but Game of Thrones is starting to join this list for me. I've yet to be impressed by this season. Hopefully it starts getting better quickly. The next episode sounds promising.

I don't think three episodes can make a show overrated when it's been amazing for 20 previous episodes.

And yes, HIMYM. Meet the mother already.
