Ebbett in the Play-offs is a scary thought...

Have another beer,Joe.

Ebbett was 60% in the circle and had 10 minutes of ice time in Dallas.

This team has a lot of problems MUCH BIGGER than a guy that plays ten minutes.

How about the third and fourth lines that are non -existent,a PP that does not control the puck and a D that is MIA?

Ebbett is the lowest paid Canuck and takes minimal shifts every game.

Have another beer,Joe.

Yep, no restrictions on who we can call up.

I expect Schroeder will replace Ebbett once he's recalled, though. Both times Schroeder got demoted, he's responded by lighting up the AHL... 14 points in his last 12 games. You can see how he's grown from the experience in such a short time. He might be small (as is Ebbett) but Schroeder is a better skater and much more aggressive. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Jensen and Sweatt are given a look as well.

Complaining about Ebbett is overdone.

The guy has been a good role player in the absence of a lot of regulars off the roster.

He's been used primarily in defensive zone start situations (getting only 37.4% offensive zone starts).

As a depth forward, playing with other depth forwards in that context, his 6 points in 25 games is really not bad, and being a mere -1 is actually somewhat impressive. His corsi is in the same range as players like Weise and Lapierre.

For all the useless qualities the OP lists, somehow Ebbett is managing to pretty much hold his own. He's actually a fairly intelligent, responsible depth option for AV. I don't like seeing him used as a center - he's not strong enough in the faceoff circle - and he doesn't generate and drive possession - but as a second center on the fourth line (and a backup left handed draw for Lapierre), he's nowhere near as terrible as is being suggested here - he works hard and he does not hurt the team. In fact he's played 25 games in which the Canucks have pretty much gained as many positive results as could be hoped for considering all the absences from the lineup this season.

I think this is a case of protesting too much.

Well then this thread is pretty much a moot point.

There's virtually no chance that AV has any intention of using Ebbett as the 3C in the playoffs.

And your OP says nothing to the effect that Ebbett should not be the 3C.

It had a much more general Ebbett sucks kinda ring to it.

"He is constantly getting exposed, and the idea of playing him in the play-offs is frightening."

I for one love Ebbett. He may be bad but he has a good work ethic. If he is as bad as you say, then he can't hit any lower. so if anything if he actually does something good. Then that is great. But again I don't think Ebbett is a horrible player. You can't expect so much of a player like that.

I have to agree. Ebbett doesn't play his role very well. He's not expected to be a high scorer, he is expected to play defensively sound on the third line. He was put out on the ice with less then a minute left with vancouver leading the game. What a coach always tells you when your get last shift is "play smart, don't get scored on" (same applies for the shift after your team scores a goal)

-So what does ebbett do? He get on the ice. touches the puck at the offensive blue line, all he needs to do it shoot the puck in deep. Thats it. But no he then bobbles it...Ok now what.

-Well a smart defensive role would immediately get on the defensive side of the puck, it's simple hockey knowledge. He doesn't do this, he attempts to steal the puck back while he's on the offensive side of the puck resulting in two wings taking the puck into the canucks zone.

-Thats ok wings don't score, but he gets a chance to redeem himself when the puck comes to his side in our zone. Now its the most important thing. Bare down and get the puck out. You make sure you get it out (some thing kassian has troubles with) Key phrase is bare down on your stick and get the puck out.

-What does ebbett do next? Shoots the puck up to his d-man when he's obviously not covering since he was in the corner, Doesn't get the puck out. wings shoot, puck is tipped and game is tied.

Complete utter garbage from a player who's role is to play defensive. He's not asked to score, he's not asked to hit. We'd be much better off with weise on the third line, He fits this role much better and at least will hit. Plus they both have the same amount of hands.

guys... Ebbett is not bad....he has proven to produce at a top 6 player level before. The only reason why he is playing is because of Injuries to Chris Higgins and David Booth. On the depth chart he is the next player in line to fill in for injuries. He has no business being in our main line up, but a decent back up player to have when we are struct with Injuries.

Debatable. Kassian on the second line is not a sign of a play-off contender, to be honest. Unless he goes into beast mode in the play-offs.

Even then, Higgins may not be in. There's Ebbett.

One injury, and there's Ebbett.

Is there any call-up we can replace him with for this year's play-offs? He's a major weak link...
