The Spendometer Anti Dix campaign. This is a winner

High above Highway 91 in Delta, a car odometer appears to spin out of control.

Look closer at the overhead electronic billboard, and you see those are actually dollar figures spinning by, the B.C. Liberals’ latest take on what they call NDP leader Adrian Dix’s out-of-control campaign promises — the Spend-o-Meter.

“In a few short days, he’s gone from the one-billion-dollar man to the two-billion-dollar man,” Finance Minister Mike de Jong told The Province at an unlikely setting for a press event — the parking lot of the Planet Ice hockey rink.

“Speed kills, and the NDP is speeding towards a cliff that will send the B.C. economy right over the edge.

“The Spend-o-Meter shows British Columbians in a very direct way how much the NDP want to spend without any plan to pay for it.”

As finance minister, de Jong has promised to bring in a balanced budget, and points to the Spend-o-Meter as electronic proof that an NDP government can’t be afforded.

De Jong apparently couldn’t afford a full-time Spend-o-Meter — the fast-spinning device shares screen time with several other, more conventional advertisers — but the NDP wasn’t going to accept even a part-time sign strategy without a fight.

As has now become commonplace at media events this election campaign, an instant rebuttal was waiting in the wings – no sooner had de Jong spent his fury than NDP finance critic Bruce Ralston stepped forward to address the assembled scribes.

“This government has brought in the biggest increase in the debt in the history of British Columbia, and five deficit budgets in a row,” said Ralston.

“Mr. de Jong should reflect on the Liberal record. It’s a lame gimmick.”

De Jong said the Spend-o-Meter will also be featured on the B.C. Liberal website, but couldn’t say yet whether use of the Spend-o-Meter will become more widespread.

I never understand how some people work. The NDP's history can more or less tell you, along with Dix in general and his history, that having the NDP in charge is probably going to end up WORSE than the Liberals. Now, I'm not defending the Liberals, they really do suck. But to have someone from the NDP hating the Liberals so much that they want someone who is probably going to do even more harm be in charge.. that's just silly. You hate something so much that you want to spite them with something that will end up doing more harm to you than the thing you want gone in the first place.

What a great rebuttal by DIx. He doesn't deny they plan to spend additional billions but instead accuses the LIberals of doing the same thing. How does any of that help address the budget shortflls and deficits?

"You over-spent so we will too, so there!".

Raise taxes...increase the public debt...Yeah, that oughta kick-start the economy. What a brilliant economic plan.

Truth hurts.

I've never seen a more desperate bunch of low lifes posing as politicians trying so hard to hold on to power in my life as these BC Liberals. Just gonna make the NDP win so much sweeter
