Capitals have re-signed Aaron Volpatti. #NHL

No word on terms yet, but even after bouncing him around the lineup and the fans there not feeling he was that effective at times, the Caps have decided to bring him back.

Caps re-sign Fehr and Volpatti

The Washington Capitals have re-signed forwards Eric Fehr and Aaron Volpatti, the club announced today.
Fehr gets a two-year deal worth $1.4 million in 2013-14 and $1.6 million in 2014-15. The 27-year-old who the Caps drafted 18th overall in 2003 has eight goals and eight assists in 39 games.

Volpatti, 28, also gets a two-year commitment, with his worth $550,000 in 2013-14 and $600,000 in 2014-15. The 28-year-old physical winger was claimed off of waivers from Vancouver on Feb. 28.

weren't the Caps in last place in their division and Ovi about 40 goals out of the Richard race when they picked up Volpatti?

at least Sestito had the guts to fight Lucic, shows he is ok with taking on anyone... for whatever reason I doubt Volpatti would do the same

Good for Volpatti! I still prefer Sestito more based on potential, although I think Volpatti was better here.

It was more Volpatti, Weise, or Pinnizotto at the time. Pinni and Volpatti are pretty much the exact same player, and Weise is the best of the three

Cdc constantly gets a big boner over these plugs.

If you mock a ho-hum signing of an expired plug like Jim Vandermeer here... Whoa... Out come the knives. But are we going to ever see him in a Canuck jersey? Hmmmm... "Derp? Hoo carez we lost Patticakez, u moran!1!"

C'mon man, I get you're just trying to mock people, but calling them Brad Moran is a little harsh.

Aside from fighting, Sestito does everything Volpatti did and brings size. Basically its big size or good fighting ability. Its pretty even between the two.

Good for Aaron, I liked him in his time here but with Weise, Pinner and later on Sestito he's not a loss.

Volpatti is a much better 4th liner than Pinizzotto. Volpatti is a great hitter and you could expect Patti to lay out 1 or 2 big hits every game.

Instead we have Pinizzotto, who tries to throw hits, but most of the time does nothing significant because he doesn't have the size, strength, or technique, and Sestito, who floats around most of the time and seldom throws hits at all, let alone big hits.

Sestito: 35 hits over 276 shifts in 29 games (1 hit every 7.89 shifts)
Pinizzotto: 25 hits over 154 shifts in 11 games (1 hit every 6.16 shifts)
Volpatti: 78 hits over 363 shifts in 31 games (1 hit every 4.65 shifts)

Volpatti > Sestito, but why does it matter?

We have enough depth to run 4 lines, so why are we using plugs. If we really need someone to play a goon role, just bring back Gino. At least he could pop the puck in.

This. People like to act like they know everything about hockey and the 4th line doesn't matter, but rolling 4 lines is pretty important for success. If you're being outworked in a game, it'd be nice to put out your 4th line and have them throw the body around to get some energy back into the team. Sestito is a useless floater, as the stats show.

Volpatti has taken on the likes of Douglas Murray, Ryan Reaves, and Andy Sutton. He doesn't appear to care who his opponent is.

Ask LA how important the 4th line can be. I wouldn't call Sestito a floater but there are/were better options.
