Crom!
"It is understood that Mr Berry had picked up the snake after noticing it was near a group of young children who had just finished their training." Didn't see that part the first time I read it.

The Ghost of Tom Joad
Australia is home to 6-7 of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world. If you live in Australia, you should really know what a Western Brown looks like because they are very dangerous and quite ubiquitous.
Captain Bob
Most snakes in my area that you see are venomous but the most common the red belly black snake hasn't killed anyone in over 100 years, its more spiders you have to worry about in the city Funnel Webs, Trap door spiders and redbacks are all common in urban areas and funnel webs kill about 1-5 kids a year. Then you have sharks, dingos, swooping magpies, and male platypus who are venomous. But hey you guys have bears and moose they're fairly dangerous Thanks for these tips. I've just saved a ton of cash by deciding to never go to Australia.
