Canucks Home Playoff Record at GM Place/Rogers Arena

Recommended Posts

The Vancouver Canucks have now lost 6 consecutive home playoff games.

This is a more than just a disturbing trend as Vancouver has fared better on the road since GM Place/Rogers Arena opened than they have at home.

Here's a breakdown of Vancouver's home playoff record since GM Place/Rogers Arena opened in 1995:

1996 vs Colorado: 1-2

2001 vs Colorado: 0-2

2002 vs Detroit: 0-3

2003 vs St. Louis: 3-1

2003 vs Minnesota: 1-3

2004 vs Calgary: 1-3

2007 vs Dallas: 2-2

2007 vs Anaheim: 0-2

2009 vs St. Louis: 2-0

2009 vs Chicago: 1-2

2010 vs Los Angeles: 2-1

2010 vs Chicago: 0-3

2011 vs Chicago: 3-1

2011 vs Nashville: 1-2

2011 vs San Jose: 3-0

2011 vs Boston: 3-1

2012 vs Los Angeles: 0-3

2013 vs San Jose: 0-2

In comparison here's Vancouver's road playoff record during the same stretch:

1996 vs Colorado: 1-2

2001 vs Colorado: 0-2

2002 vs Detroit: 2-1

2003 vs St. Louis: 1-2

2003 vs Minnesota: 2-1

2004 vs Calgary: 2-1

2007 vs Dallas: 2-1

2007 vs Anaheim: 1-2

2009 vs St. Louis: 2-0

2009 vs Chicago: 1-2

2010 vs Los Angeles: 2-1

2010 vs Chicago: 2-1

2011 vs Chicago: 1-2

2011 vs Nashville: 3-0

2011 vs San Jose: 1-1

2011 vs Boston: 0-3

2012 vs Los Angeles: 1-1

Clearly, there is some disconnect as NO OTHER NHL TEAM HAS AS POOR A HOME PLAYOFF RECORD during the same stretch.

There appears to be NO home ice advantage as far as Vancouver is concerned.

Any thoughts on why this is the case?

Also, which of those home playoff losses is the most memorable/disappointing?

Lol... You guys realize when it mattered they went 3-1 in the final?...

That's when you want it and that's when they got it. They couldn't get a single road win. Otherwise cup was ours.

I expect a canucks redwings series from 2002. Flames go up 2... Nucks win 4 in a row. That'd be something!

I think after 2011 this team has gone stale. The series after that 2011 series was against LA. They simply outplayed us and rocked us. Next series was against the San-jose sharks, Kesler had the arena in his hands but in the 3rd period Hansen failed at making the hockey iq play.( scoring the empty net goal) we got swept later on.

I think the fans are just as nervous as the team at home. Tonight was a perfect example, missed shots, missed nets, and horrible plays. 2 on 1s wasted. (Burrows, Higgins) Bonino isn't going to get any fan excited by the way he is skating. Hey what about that Oiler game those fans were loud and wild I wonder why?

I think you're on to something with respect to the fans being nervous.

I think the way we lost in 2011 combined with the last three seasons leading to the debacle of last season and missing the playoffs has been for many fans, myself included, a real big:

I think fans want to believe that this team and especially this core can prove otherwise, but at the first sign of adversity in any Canuck home game, the place goes quiet and the nervousness & anxiety in the arena becomes palpable. It's almost like being hurt by your partner in a long term relationship. You want to trust your instincts, but are too afraid of getting hurt again.

Does this effect the team? I'd like to think it doesn't, but given our home record overall, it just might.

I've always thought that starting a series on the road is a better option. If you win 1 or 2, and come back home, you're in a good position. So I don't know why all the effort to get 'home ice advantage' ... just lost it in 30 seconds.

Except of course if you're an owner who rake in more $$ for that extra one home game.

I honestly, strongly believe the players do notget the privilege to feed off from the crowd's energy. Rogers Arena is very quiet and not uplifting
