JamesB
Things are not looking all that bad for next year if MG can make a couple of things happen. Here is my take. 1. The most important player on the ice most nights is the goalie, and I think Schnieder is excellent. This year was a circus and both Schneider and Lu handled the situation well, but it had to take a toll on both guys.Going forward, I am very happy with Schneider in the nets. Lu might need a compliance buyout to get his caphit off the books (and avoid long term liability). 2. The D is basically very good. Next year I see Hammer and Bieksa back together, Edler with Carrodo, and Garrison with Tanev. Each pairing has a lefty and a righty, and each pairing combines a very safe cool player with more of a risk-taker. And each pairing has one guy with pretty good size. These are all top 4 quality pairings. 3. The Sedins with Burrows with still be a good first line -- not as good as 2010-11, but still good. Their production was down this year but was still good considering that other teams had no other line to worry about. There are slightly past their pick but should still be very good. 4. Kesler is best as a PP/PK/ shutdown specialist. With Hansen and Higgins, that gives the team one of the best shutdown lines in the league. 5. What the Canucks need is a good second line. Trading Grabner and a first round pick gave up what could have been 2/3 of a second line for nothing in return (Ballard, who can't even make the active line-up and will probably be compliance buyout this summer). And trading away Hodgson lost the other third. These are the guys who are missing. 6. Booth is a wild card. And Kassian, if properly coached, could be on the other wing on a second line. What the Canucks need is a good free agent centre to centre a second scoring line. 7. The other problem is coaching. In my view AV has ridden on the coat-tails of the Sedins and Luongo (and now Schneider) with very little value added as a coach. He has a terrrible developmental record. The Sedins are bascially self-coached. AV could not get along with Hodgson, did not develop Grabner effectively, has done nothing with Raymond or Kassian and just is not a good developmental coach. In short, with a good free agent pickup for a centre (or possibly a trade) and a new coach this team could have a decent shot next year. After that we need guys like Gaunce, Jensen, and Kassian to develop to replace the Sedins in the future. AV is the last guy I would trust with that job. The Magician
Trade the Sedins, fire AV, get a sniper, and someone who can score especially come playoffs
CanucksSayEh
I imagine we will be a pretty high seed again. Followed by much disappointment, at least for the foreseeable moves the team will make.
bobopan
So pretty much can the coach and go with for the most part the same team that is failing miserably now and we should have a decent shot again just like this year lol.
Plum
Your thread is better than the other ones about the offseason. You covered it all basically, but it is a little bit more than that..Schreoder,Sweatt,Weise and 4~ other prospects are RFAs and need to be resigned and they aren't cheap. RyanKeslord17
The Sedins won't bring this team a cup, plain and simple. Sad, but the truth hurts. They are blessed with crazy skill, but toughness always gets the better of them.

Kelly Green
i agree with james b , they need to get some youth into the lineup . i 'm not an a. v. hater but bowness has to go , how can that many good defensemen play that bad ? i say raymond , booth , roy , ballard , edler , luongo and schroeder are out next year , and shea weber , ryan clowe , and a big young center ice man or two are in . i think mike gillis has been working on nashville for weber for some time , the others will be easier to aquire , just a feeling ! why would you ever trade the sedins ? Ihatetomatoes
Unless Gillis can magically put some real offensive depth and talent on the wings for next year it's going to be a mediocre year. The Sedin's aren't elite enough any more to carry the entire offensive load. Raymond blows, Higgins is a grinder, Hansen is a grinder, burrows is a grinder, Kassian is about 4 years away from making any sort of offensive impact if he does ever. Probably one of the worst teams in the league for talent on the wings. Getting a 3rd line center isn't the hardest thing to do and I'm sure it will happen. Maybe Schroeder will slot in and play but he really just doesn't fit as a 3rd line center. The sky is falling and it's now time to look back and remember the Cup run of 2011 like we remember the cup run of 94'
Plum
Successful teams start with being built up the middle. LA has Anze Kopitar,Richards,Stoll,Fraser. Pittisburgh:Crosby,Malkin,Sutter. That is how we should be come next season. Big centers who can shutdown other centers. Our forwards need to be bigger than their defense so we can intimidate and cycle in offensive zone. Sedin,Kesler_____,Lapierre. Someone big like Berglund, Jenner, just someone big enough so they don't tossed around. My point is Schreoder,Roy probably won't work against hard nosed centers. PlayoffHockey
Our bounce back probably happens 2 years from now if Sedins are 3rd line at a huge discount, we could be really dangerous again then, best case scenario. might be the only way the Twins will ever win the Cup. i wonder about MG after he re-upped Raymond + rewarded Edler with a 30 million dollar handshake for being the worst player on any team in last years playoffs. If we dealt Schneider,Edler,Burrows,Sedins,Hamhuis and replaced Raymond,Higgins this team could get playoff built in a hurry. Blow it and keep the guys who can play like animals in the playoffs and not disappear.

PlayoffHockey
Garrison has been our best all season, but Hamhuis is probably after him. Top 4 Order: Garrison Hamhuis Bieksa Edler
Cigano
Our defense is overrated and not as good as people think. Our top 4 would all be 2nd pairing guys on other teams. We need at least one top big minute, defenseman that is our go to guy, like a Chara, Doughty, Keith, Suter for example. Past cup winners all have this one dman or a pair.
