hockeyking
That top line is never again/ever going to get us past the 1st round. We need to face hard facts. Weise and Lapierre are useless 4th liners. Hansen belongs on the 4th line (that should set the bar for this team) Kassian needs a season under good coaching in the AHL. Burrows belongs on the 2nd or on the 3rd line with Raymond and a big gritty fast centre.
LouieB
1) New coaches 2) Trade involving Edler for a young stud 3rd center (Couturier?) 3) Trade Lu for picks 4) Fill #5 D-hole and remaining forward positions with prospects and free agents - should be lots of bargains with the cap going down. EDIT: 5) Need at least 2 "snipers". It seems Kesler is the only forward we have who is dangerous from more than 6 feet from the net (making defending us easy). AV didn't utilize pure skill guys properly, but the new coach needs to realize their value.
LegionOfDoom
we are taking a contract back if we trade luongo.... honestly its nearly impossible to even start thinking about next years lines. if a new gm comes in expect 3 or 4 different trades and a differently structured team. I don't like burke right now only because I feel like we don't have to crap the bed like oilers to keep a decent team if we land a couple lucky prospects something burke will just trade we wont stay competitive
Hodgson!!
This isn't going to happen, but its my dream line-up .. psalm1975
now, please don't call me crazy. But putting it out there, to see what people think. How about trading the Sedins? They are both 33 yr old not getting any younger. Of course we will need to get something significant back in return. Kesler is often injured, maybe him as well? Just thinking, some fresh blood in the system. That was an embarrassing lost to SJ.
L'Orange
Edler is gutless and has no place on the team. If we want to get tougher, we have to send Edler out.

Van40
Raymond at a reasonable figure has to stay imo. He laid on more chances than Roy, Higgins or Hansen. He had as many points as Kesler (who by the way totally disappeared in the make or break game 4 )Along with these playoff types, we need to get BIGGER He was more responsible for getting us to the playoffs than most of the top 12. It is all well and good getting these "playoff types" for the playoffs but you have to get there first. Raymond is the type of player who gets you there and he wasn't too shabby in the playoffs either. Oh and Hansen in the top line? ............GTF out of here! N4ZZY
These are the lines I would put together for next year: D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Kassian (give him a shot) Jensen - Schroeder - Kesler (C'mon...Kes is really a winger. Let Schroeder be his set up man). Higgins - Gaunce - Hansen (Gaunce has to be given a chance next season, mostly because of cap reasons) Lain - Lappy - Pinazatto (spelling? I'd take him over Weise, to be honest). Defense: Hamhuis - Bieksa (Bieksa sucks at D. Hamhuis will have his back) Garrison - Tanev (Move Garrison back to his natural left position on D. Tanev is now a stable, young dman) Edler - Corrado (Corrado is better defensively already than Edler) Alberts/Barker Schneider. That line up looks fresher, but it doesn't look better. If that's the line up we go with, we probably score less goals. Booth is either traded or bought out. Same with Ballard.
Winesellar69
Team needs to get bigger, stronger, grittier and score alot more goals....so, Gaunce is going to be a beast. This. Winesellar69
said another way, Luongo, Ballard, Booth, Raymond, Roy, Barker are out. Schroeder stays on the farm. too small. Edler maybe traded for a big fast #2D man. In are Ribeiro, DuPuis, Gaunce, Corrado, Jensen, Lack. Bigger, stronger, way more goals, and a big improvement on skill too
CanucksJay
My lineup? load up the top line Sedin Sedin Kesler Kes has shown he can play RW with great playmakers and his speed and forecheck, physicality and ability to finish is PERFECT for the Sedins. We can use SJ model of being aggressive on draws because we have 2 centres on the line 2nd line Booth 2c Burrows Acquire 2C via trade or FA. It's critical we get a solid centre in this trade even if we have to add prospects and picks. I'm thinking someone like Rebiero 3rd line Higgins Couturier Hansen Acquire by trading Edler 4th line Weise Lapierre Kassian My lines (players in brackets mean that player or similar player) Sedin Sedin Kesler (2 great passers Sedin and 2 great finishers D.Sedin and Kesler) Booth (Rebiero) Burrows (2 great passers Burrows and Rebiero and 2 finishers Booth and Burrows) Higgins (Couturier) Hansen (shut down line) Weise Lapierre Kassian (Crash and Bang line) Hamhuis Bieksa Ballard Garrison Tanev Corrado (Ballard gets new opportunity to be puck moving d-man with new coach) This lineup changes the dynamics of the team by only making 2 moves. 2c and 3c Our success depends on whether MG can get a great 2c and 3c players Trade baits to get 2c and 3c Luongo, Edler, Schroeder, Jensen, Guance Yes that would empty the cupboard but obviously we aren't going to trade ALL of these players. It would be ideal if we can trade Edler for Couturier straight up and Lu just gets a few draft picks and we use that draftpick and 1 of these prospects plus maybe a 1st rounder to get a solid 2c
Burr's bandwagon
All this 'gutting' the team is unrealistic and if Gillis and co indeed stick around another year, will never happen. Most of the core will be back because there's not much else available - but here's the major holes needing a full look yet again: Sedin - Sedin - _______ Burrows - Kesler - _______ Higgins - ______ - Hansen ______ - ______ - Kassian Garrison - Hamhuis Bieksa - _____ Tanev - Alberts ? Lack Coaching Candidates (currently thin but will see how the rest of round 1 goes) Arniel ( you know Gillis is going to look at him despite his record) Gretzky (only because of his connection to Aquilini) Habscheid Boucher Babcock * (if they lose round 1) Blysma * (if they lose round 1) Laviolette * (if fired) Brent Sutter Robbie Fedoruk Lindy Ruff Don Hay GM Candidates (honestly this list is THIN, so I don't see Gillis being fired at all, even if he should) Neil Smith Pat Quinn Brian Burke Rick Dudley Wayne Gretzky (see above) Bob Nicholson (Hockey Canada) Scott Neidermayer Markus Naslund Laurence Gilman Coaching staff Needs: - respected league coach - creative special teams 'guru'; - retired and stanley cup winning former D-man - A stats/video guy - A touted off-ice /skills training coach Exiting: - Raymond, Sestito, Ebbett, Roy, Weise, Lapierre, Ballard, Booth, Pinizotto, Vandermeer, Joslin, Barker all gone (pretty much all plugs with ZERO impact to the team....reminds me of the 'Byron Ritchie' type players on the PP days of Crawford); I would say Kassian would be dumped but as long as Gillis is here, he'll never be dealt Trade Chips: - Edler (is the only d-man worth anything and from old core) - Either (or both) Luongo and Schneider as trade bait (perhaps Luongo for a flurry of draft picks to retool; Schneider for a BONAFIDE top 3 scorer/Top 4 RHD) Thoughts? CanucksJay
Edler is far more valueable than Couturier. Plus Gaunce >>>> Couturier. And good luck getting under the cap by signing a new second line centre.

Burr's bandwagon
I checked it out on cap geek. It works Plus Guance is still a few years away from being an effective checking centre on a cup contending team.
