He's perfect. The guy's a winner, he's done a great job in San Jose as an assistant. He's respected by players and management. Quality teams begin with quality at the top in management. San Jose will never keep him as an assistant so let's get ourselves someone who's won the cup, knows what it takes and will inspire his players.

Great choice, but I have heard he likes being an assistant rather than a head guy.

I read somewhere on this board he had anxiety issues in New Jersey. Maybe that has passed and he'd like to be a Head guy again.

Why won't San Jose keep him as an assistant?

Wouldn't mind Robinson if we can't get Ruff.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Also heard he doesn't want a head coaching job. Really don't think Ruff is coming here as apparently Kassian and him didn't see eye to eye. Gillis isn't going to want a repeat of the AV debacle.

He has that Sutter face that seems to get respect with the reffs, can work with young players no nonsense hard ass that wont tolerate diving. This team needs someone like him instead of the old tired retreads like Ruff and his ilk.

Are there any coaches available who play an uptempo offensive game? I'm so sick of playing the grind-em-out type with the amount of high skill players we have on the team.

I think, not only he wants to be an assistant, I think he's better at it. He's 62 and head coach requires a lot time.

As a hall of famer, I think he's better at teaching individually each player and sharing his expirences as a player, where a head coach, doesn't have time to coach every player individually. He has to take care of strategies, analysing the other teams' game tape, etc. It's more about the whole scheme.

Are you friends of his, or know his agent? So you're speculating then. His anxiety issues might have stemmed from the fact that he's a fierce competitor, and he wants to win really badly. He's not defense and that's it. His teams score goals as well. He's just one of the best teachers in the game. That aspect of his is why I want him here in Vancouver. He might be able to correct the flaws in our defense. We also will probably work on a solid offensive system as well. I'd gladly welcome him here.

Pass it to Bulis has a great list of choices (And some not so great).

Robinson has been a head coach 2X and didn't like the stress. The Canucks should have no shortage of applicants if AV is canned. I do expect he will be fired. The roster does have enough talent to take another serious CUP run over the next two years.

It's well documented, he was a candidate for The Montreal Canadiens, before Therrien was hired. But he either declined an interview or said he wasn't interested (can't remember exactly), that is why he accepted a job as an assistant in SJ.

He was also a leading candidate to get the job in New Jersey before Deboer, but had no intention of becoming a head coach again.

That'd be one of my frontrunners actually. I think he'd bring some fire and accountability to the team, and he is a decent coach.

I concur about Laviolatte. If he is available I would get him in a heartbeat. He coached the 2003 (or 04?) Canes to the Cup.
