Smashian Kassian
Um. No. Drafting has been, by far, his achilles' heel. That being said, he's signed some nice college free agents...

Ossi Vaananen
Well if Bobby Mac threw it out there, then it's likely he had it from a legitimate source on the players side, either the agent, the player or the NCAA coach. We know that Gillis plays it close to the chest, and he'll deny it the signing till it's actually official.
Joel Heyman
Peter Andersson is one of his first 20 or so followers on twitter. Could have some influence in a decision.
Dazzle
Too early to tell. Although I think he has done better than he has been given credit for in that time considering the picks we have had.
Smashian Kassian
Gillis hasn't had as much drafting success as we had hoped. Is it all on him? Nah, it's not all his fault. But people who say "ZOMG GILLS GUD DRAFTING" is out to lunch. Gillis has had poor to mediocre DRAFTING, but has been more successful grabbing players from college. To his credit, he has attracted "big name " players to come here: Sundin, Demitra (RIP), Hamhuis, Garrison (with Raymond's help however), etc. I think the coach (AV) had a lot more to do with why our prospects were not blooming (Shirokov etc). Glad he's gone.
Darkstar
I agree on AV, although I think some people's expectations for our drafting are unrealistic. We haven't drafted high and we traded alot of picks, we have actually made quite a few good picks.
Smashian Kassian
There are several teams out there that finish up there in the standings every year and still maintain a solid prospect pool. An example is Detroit. The Canucks drafting and development has been poor, no excuse.
Darkstar
And how great is Detriots record of producing NHLers? Who was the last full time NHLer they have drafted & developed? Cory Emmerton from 06? Yet everyone says theres is great and ours is bad.

canucklax
So, can you give us examples of how Detroit's drafting (since 2008) has been so much superior to the Canucks'? I'm not that familiar with the Wings' prospects, and when I check them over I don't see anyone who stands out as being head and shoulders above anyone who was drafted by the Canucks. regards, G. Smashian Kassian
Current Wings drafted from 2005 onward- Kindl, Abdelkader, Helm, Emmerton, Smith, Andersson, Nyquist, Tatar* Current Canucks drafted from 2005 onward- Raymond, Schroeder* The Wings also have a stronger current prospect pool.
