Rumours have it he has indeed rekindled his lust for LA backup Johnathan Bernier and the trade piece is yet again Matt Read. But wait, there is more. Because of Berniers status this year as an RFA there is speculation Holmgren might not play fair and just offer sheet him for the $3.3 million he can afford and smile as he gives up a measly second rounder. now there is no question that LA would match but it is an interesting notion that Holmgren would yet again go for a goalie with very little experience in the regular season and even less in the post season. He should give up a second rounder and prospect for luongo and their goaltending situation for the next 5 years would be clear. Ossi Vaananen Posted June 18, 2013 Share Posted June 18, 2013 I'm still a fan of Holmgren, this move makes sense as they need goaltending and can afford to trade some forwards. Keep in mind this is the same guy who in 2011-12 iced a team comprised almost entirely of rookies and young guys, and took them to the ECF. He's made bold moves like trading away Richards and Carter with their massive contracts for unproven prospects and young players. His gamble paid off, say for the current woes in net.
