Well a couple weeks ago on twitter Lapierres agent Don Meehan went on twitter and said the Canucks were not in talks with his client. Today according to Stephanie Gonzalez out of TVA Sports, she says while interviewing Laperre in the gym that he would like to avoid a 2 year contract and sign long term in a place he could be happy, Lapierre has had talks with Vancouver and the organization is waiting to handle the coaching situation before taking in to the next level in contract talks with Lapierre.

http://tvasports.ca/...erchee-18062013

"Maxim Lapierre espère signer un contrat de trois ou quatre ans, à Vancouver ou ailleurs."

This is good news it cant be bad to lock up a player who was 2nd in the league at defensive zone faceoffs last year, and a guy who can really chip and put games away, especially in the shootouts!

Just put that quote into google translate: "Maxim Lapierre hopes to sign a contract for three or four years, in Vancouver or elsewhere." I think it would be good if we could re-sign Lappy to center our 4th line for the next three or four years. But then again, I wouldn't lose too much sleep if we let him go.

I really hope we can sign Lappy long term for good money. He's a physical pest who we should definitely keep.

I'd love to see him stick around, I think he's great on the 4th line.

Quite honestly I am not keen on making any more of our 3rd and 4th line players comfortable for more than 2 years. Especially Lappy.
We need to stop giving average players long contracts. If he wants to walk............fine by me.

Lappy is one of most consistent physical players.

If this team wants to get tougher for the playoffs, getting rid of him would be counter productive.

I would have no problem with Lapierre signing in Vancouver for three years. Can be an effective player and has some offense if in the right position.

4 years at say $1.25 million per would be fine. he is one of the guys that works every single night and if we surround him with semi talented or at least regular guys for the 4th line we might get some regular production out of him as well. Sign him GMMG

He's out for 6 months (which will hinder his development) and he really needs that development. There's already worries that he won't translate to the NHL and he'll end up a huge ass bust.

^ and ^^ likely going to need to up that caphit for him to remain in Vancouver, he will draw a lot of interest as a free agent. He is going to have some good options to think about if he wants to.

I'd prefer 2-3 years simply given where other players are in their contracts, age etc. It's not unlikely that's when the twins retire and we go in to a mini rebuild.

Something like this would be fair, and I have no problem having Max on the team for 2 more years. He is a versatile player, but my only concern is his lack of chemistry with other players and lack of puck control in the O zone.

I like Lappierre for a lot of reasons but I don't disagree with keeping 3rd and 4th line players a little hungry with shorter contracts. Given his qualities and the job he did on Defensive zone face-offs I think we will be hard-pressed to keep him. I think he'll get offered 2+ million to play somewhere.

People forget, there has been a lot of shiznit happening with this team this off-season. Can't get to everything all at once.

Wonder if MayRay will be kept as well...

Hard to generate chemistry with a revolving door of Ebbetts, Sestitos, and Weises. Give him players like Torres and Hansen and he should thrive.

I really hope Lappy stays. I think people underestimate his worth. He's exactly the kind player people say we need, but then want to get rid of for some reason. He's a physical pest who can also chip in occasionally on the scoreboard and holds his own in the faceoff circle.

This season, he got 10 points (or, only 5 fewer than Higgins in just 7 more games and with less total ice time), had a face off win rate of 50.7% (behind only Manny and Kesler), and led the team by far in hits with 116. (Next most hits: Weise with 84 and then Elder with 77.)

Plus, he has a smirk that would make his own momma want to punch him out. For that alone we need to re-sign him!

good 4th liner, but will probably ask at least 1.5M an increase from his 1.1M (I believe?) this year.

I'm sure we can find a cheaper one, like Konopka.

Don't know if Lappy would ask for an increase or not given the cap situation, but he made $1M this year (actual and cap hit).

Konopka has a year left on his contract. He'll get $1M next year with a cap hit of 0.925 M.

Even if we could trade for him though, he would not be a suitable replacement for Lappy.

This season:

Lappy - 10 points (including 1 GWG)
Konopka - 0 points

Lappy - 45 PIM (in 48 games)
Konopka - 117 PIM (in 37 games)

Konopka did have a better faceoff win % (60.7) but Lappy took more than double the number of faceoffs.

I think there is a spot on this team for him and with a new coach he would surely have a bit of a fresh start. I think he himself would rather move on at this point however. Under-rated player in Vancouver, you'd think he was a goaltender or something.

Konopka is a fighter who can win a draw. But he offers nothing else. Still, i'd prefer him over Sestito.

Sestito needs to drastically improve in pretty much every way, or he's out of the NHL.
