RAMBUTANS
Lus contract just isnt that bad. In a few years teams will be salivating over it, especially if they want to kill cap.

Provost
I can guarantee that we will not be retaining any of Luongo's salary in a trade... nor will we be buying him out. We are a cap team so keeping cap is a non-starter for us. If we waived Luongo there would be several claims on him, so buying him out is not necessary. There is a difference between not getting the return we want in a trade and being in a crisis.
cmpunk
Lu's contract when signed was a great contract for us. Because of it spread through many years we lowered his caphit. His contract was for to him to be our franchise goalie for years. But now when you want to trade him after just 3 years, the contract looks even worse. aqua59
Pierre Lebrun was on the team 1040 and said he spoke to one GM who he would not name, and said he is very interested in Luongo. But not his contract and he is hoping the Canucks buy him out so he could sign him right away. So this situation is interesting. MG is not going to get the deal he wants now for Lu for sure, and if he does happen to pull a trade but keeping some of Lu's salary, it will be the best case scenario now. But what do you think Lu would get signed for say the Canucks buy him out because a lot of teams will jump on him. And Pierre also mentioned he thinks Luongo is the best goalie out of all of the ones available.
Heretic
They aren't buying him out, There are teams that would take him for free. TO would have at the deadline.
DeNiro
Like most people have said it will take us taking back a bad contract and then buying it out to get value for Lu. Why would we buy out his contract when we can buy out another players contract and actually get something for him? TSN's constant attempts to try and lower Luongo's value is pretty sad. nuck nit
This much we know: Gillis threw Luongo under the bus and for his intent and purpose kept him under the bus for one full year. That has impacted his team and the organisation all season long. Gillis is either not able to make this trade or had no trading partners. This is said to be a deep draft.Let's hope Gillis has been taking some gonad growth pills.
canadiangunner
Its media BS! If Luongo was a free agent Toronto media would be going crazy to try and get the guy signed...he would easily fetch around 5.5-6m per year on a 6 or 7 year deal. Not much off of what he is on now and structured in a much more positive light with money owing a lot less then cap hit going forward! BS! Annoys the hell out of me how the east coast bias media just goes on about his contract without stating the actual facts....wanna talk bad goalie contracts look at Carey Prices deal! Warhippy
Here is what people are forgetting. The structure of his contract means that the vast bulk of it has been paid already. The meat and potatoes is his cap hit as most of his monetary salary has been paid for already. Cash strapped teams could be interested based on this alone. his cap hit is a GM problem, his actual salary is the owner problem and knowing you've a decent player who has most of an ugly salary already paid makes him appealing no matter what LeBrun and other pundits say. there is indeed a market for Lu IMO it just needs to be settled on what Gillis/Aqullini will take back in return. ie; bad contracts

CanucksJay
I dont think we will buy out Lu. Least return is that we waive him and bottom team picks him up. Does he have a no movement clause? Can he be waived?

nuck nit
The media were starting to go all over Schneids when he sucked early on this year. Gillis immediately stepped out multiple times on the Team to quash the negative press Corey was receiving. AV has been quoted as saying that his fortunes were always tied to Roberto's winning. This year against LA, AV was at his end and was reaching putting in an injured Schneids but ,yes, I think he threw Luo. AV coached the last two games without Roberto and lost his job so I see some karma in that.

poetica
Wouldn't it be ironic if Luo does end up with the Islanders. Then he and AV can see one another often....on opposite sides.
Legend Killer
If Luongo gets bought out, i will never forgive Mike Gillis. He's a future hall of famer, he deserves better. Trade schneider, it's such an obvious solution
MANGO
buy him out and resign him for 0.5 mil a year for 5 years......haha..... then, trade Schnides.
Drouin
No doubt cause Lou is proven and an elite goalie. If we have to retain some salary to get a better return? Why not, better than nothing. Market price probably 12m 2years to 11m 2years, all depends on GM.
