Curious, I've seen different opinions. Two large defensemen that I'm sure the Oilers are taking a hard look at. Probably the two best defensemen behind Jones although you could argue for Zadorov.

Nurse. Saw him play the kids get eyes in the back of his head and is so smart on the ice. Added he's mean and of course he's experience on smaller ice surfaces. Nothing against European defenders but it just always seems to me that they take longer to develop the NA style of play, even if they tend to make superior puck possession defensemen

He's out for 6 months (which will hinder his development) and he really needs that development. There's already worries that he won't translate to the NHL and he'll end up a huge ass bust.

Rasmus has the potential to be a beastly #1 dman. Gimme the Finn.

Both will be solid, well-rounded rough studs though.

Nurse easy.... I saw him play when I was visiting family in London, ON and saw the Knights vs Greyhounds. He had at least 10 hits in that game and had two assists.

Nurse. He's going to be a stud. He's an unreal dman. Got a bit of a nasty streak to boot.

Ristolanen has already been playing with men in Finland and is probably a better overall player. He plays positional well at both ends of the ice and has ability both offensively and defensively.

Nurse is the more physical of the two and has the size to go with it. He projects as a punishing defender with offensive upside, but not as much as Ristolanen but still is a good skater for his size.

I don't think either would be a bad choice for anyone, both are mobile and good in their own end while being able to add points, just Ristolanen relies on hockey sense more while Nurse is more capable of an outright physical game.

you can't lose as a GM if this is your dilemma, i'd take nurse just because he seems to be more well rounded than risto

It's probably more the opposite, with Ristolanen being more well rounded. Nurse will likely be more of a defensive D-man who can provide offence, while Ristolanen will be a more typical 2-way D-man.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

maybe well rounded isn't the term i'm looking for. its more like nurse has more to his game than ristolainen in the fact that he has all the hockey skill you could want in both zones plus the physicality and some snarl. factor in also he has always played the NA style game and it would seem he is tailored for NHL playing time sooner than ristolainen.

Actually again, Ristolainen is projected to have a more immediate impact as long as he can adjust to the different sized ice surface. Here's a couple of good writeups (better than using Hockey's Future) from Hockey Prospectus:

8. Rasmus Ristolainen, Defense, TPS (SM-Liiga)

Ristolainen had a quality season in Finland, where he often logged tough, heavy minutes for TPS. That is an impressive role for an 18-year-old defenseman in that league. He is not a flashy player, but he does everything well. He best skill is his hockey sense. He thinks the game at a level well beyond his years, and he does not make many mistakes on the ice. He is an aware, effective defenseman who can close gaps with his body or with his stick. With the puck, he shows calmness, but he can process the game quickly when the situation calls for it. He can man the point on the power play. He is a solid to above-average skater (I have heard an NHL scout classify him as high end in that area). His puck handling is at a similar level; he can flash significant offensive ability, but the bulk of value will come from his work in his own zone. To that point, he will lay the body, and he can provide quality hits. He could fast track to the NHL quicker than a typical defense prospect.
...
11. Darnell Nurse, Defense, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

Nurse had a considerable amount of hype at the beginning of the season, and he has exceeded all expectations. He is a gifted physical player who has all the natural tools a scout could want from a defenseman. He has slowly begun to emerge as a two-way player, but his value comes from his high-end work in his own end. Nurse is a tall defender with an aggressive edge and the strength to consistently push his checks off pucks. He has above-average mobility, especially considering his larger size. With his wingspan, he is able to make a multitude of plays in the defensive end. I have heard previous concerns from scouts about his offensive upside, but he took a step forward in that element this season. He will not be a dynamic offensive threat, but he can move the puck at an above-average level, and join the rush on occasion. He projects as a point man on a second power play unit, while logging the tough defensive minutes. Nurse's next level of progression will have to come from his below-average shot.

that's a pretty big question mark though. no doubt in my mind he will be a quality player, it seems to me nurse will have an easier time finding a way to contribute to a team, sooner. If ristolainen makes that adjsutment quickly, then he would have more ways to contribute than nurse.

but thats just talking about the short term. Long term, you pick ristolainen for production, and you pick nurse for stability and grit.
