Oh... The amount of insensitivity in this thread...

I can't imagine what it'd be like to go through something like that. My hearts go out to all of them, and I will be strongly considering a donation.

Edit: Looks like it hasn't stopped (the crappy little comments). Along with Deb, I too have a close friend involved in this crisis. They've been evacuated from their home by the military for the week, and were taken to gather a week's worth of personal items to take with them to an emergency shelter. Their house? Well it's still standing. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a backyard anymore, and there's a big gaping hole into the first floor.

I'm sorry guys, but that's not funny, at all.

For the most part it's mostly just stuff that is damaged. While it appears four people have died you can bet more people have died slipping in the tub in that amount of time. If there's anything to learn it's perhaps to evaluate the wisdom of building anything but farms in the floodplain and to highlight the risk if putting off fixing your drainage infrastructure.

Cool, although somewhat ambiguous. On a side note I notice that you are a Dave Babych fan. I once gave him and his emoumous stache a ride in my checker cab once. (true story I should add as I know it sounds fake)

Sorry for the ambiguity, I want to keep a certain amount of privacy on public forums. Do you live in the Hat?

Looks like we are through the worst with nominal damage. What a community! 200,000 sandbags!

Not even Harvey the Hound could escape the floods.

Not quite Calgary, but has to do with the floods...

http://www.cbc.ca/ne...s/story/2013/06/28/pol-pmo-guns-alberta.html

What I really don't get is why the gun owners can't seem to understand that THEY WILL GET THEIR GUNS BACK.

"This act of aggression is further proof that the RCMP have a not-so-hidden agenda to take guns away from responsible gun owners," Tony Bernardo, head of the group, said in a release.
...
"We are advised that the Prime Minister's Office will examine whether the rights of Canadians have been ignored by the police. I am confident that the federal government will deal swiftly with those who have portrayed Canada as a police state in the eyes of the of the world."

Seems like the responsible gun owners DIDN'T have their guns laying out in the open and thus didn't have them confiscated.

I agree with you 100%. Not to mention that with efforts not focused on security at the moment, it would be easy enough for some stranger to walk into their home and steal their firearm. And hell, if the firearm is ever used, it'll trace back to the owners... so I'd say the RCMP are doing them a favour.

Yesterday we had some pretty intense rain, and apparently it caused multiple flash floods around the city.

Stampede Parade is on CBC right now. Looks good, it's sunny, there are a ton of people out and the streets are covered in horsecrap.

Just like it's supposed to be.

Some dude's riding a 3000lb bull down the street

Glad I moved back to BC or everything I own would have been under water; I lived in Mission, a block away from the Elbow river.

Calgary's mayor seems to be doing a decent job in the few clips I've seen. Suprisingly photogenic. Kinda Jack layton ish, in that both guys would be good dudes to have a beer with.

I was there when Nenshi ran, guy was a breath of fresh air compared to the uber corrupt Bronco (not to mention the council members who gave themselves a raise during the economic crisis). He is a great mayor, hope he goes federal sooner rather than later, they need him.
