I get that you guys at the top of the thread are trying to be funny, but a lot of people rely on the posters who post recaps of what MG really says and we'd rather not sift through half a page of fake quotes, sometimes unable to distinguish the two.

Mike Gillis is confident Chris Tanev will re-sign with the team; negotiations on-going.

-cant tell you that
-we are in the process

Only thing i got out of the interview is that we won't be trading up in the draft. Cost is high

I HOPE we see some changes weather trading luongo, a big splash with trading Edler. But deep down I have a feeling that nothing will happen and we'll blow our 1st rnd pick on a 3rd line center.

No! Please don't trade our 1st for 2nd round picks. The first round is the only round we've been consistent in.

And he's talking to teams about Luongo? You don't say?

Mike Gillis is truly an enigma. That an a buffoon. Why does the TEAM 1040 even interview him? Why does "Nasal Drip" Sekeres still work on radio with that muppet voice?

I don't know, trading down my not be the worst thing to do if we can get two picks early in the 30s.

Looking at the order though, there isn't a team that currently fits that bill. ( Sorry, wrong, Mtl at 34th and 36th)

I would flip our 24th for CBJ's 27th and 44th though. That would make sense for us.

Maybe with Dallas at 29th and 40th.

People who expect Gillis to go on-air and reveal anything must be smoking something illegal .. I think Gillis just goes on 1040 to troll his detractors, and it works .. bunch of butt-hurt babies .. :towel:

I think he is telemarketing the league.

Give him credit. He realizes that the demand from other teams to trade up is higher than to trade down, so if his 24th is for sale he may start a small bidding war which may in the end favour us.

EDIT: I wish he would take the same approach with the goalie situation, since everyone wants Schneider...

Also Anaheim at 26th and 45th could work.

Ana - 26th, 45th
Mtl - 34th, 36th
CBJ - 27th, 44th
Dal - 29th, 40th.

No one would do these trades? I think we could get two very good players at each of those spots.

Honestly, at this point that's probably what's going on.

I have a feeling they'll have to buy Lu out

My prediction: NHL GM's have colluded against Gillis and are refusing to trade for Luongo. Gillis maintains his optimistic arrogance, keeping his head burried in the sand, and refuses to buy Lu out missing the buyout deadline. Gillis puts Lu on waivers and no one touches him. Lu remains with the team come training camp and refuses to report. Canucks then try to void his contract in an attempt at a clean break for both parties. NHL steps in and argues CBA circumvention attempt. I don't think we're done yet folks!

Imagine what we could land with Schneider, and compare that with Luongo. It only makes sense to trade Schneider. That being said, it is unfortunate that MG put both goaltenders into this situation and is pretty much just looking to trade Luongo.

I'd rather have MG trade from a position of excess (goaltending, defence) to land either help up front for the top 6 or a higher draft pick. This draft is insanely deep and a top 10 pick this year essentially translates into a top 3/5 pick in any other regular draft. Nichushkin, Barkov, and possibly even Jones or Drouin could be had if MG is willing to trade a guy like Edler or Schneider along with a few other minor pieces.

If (and it's BIG if) Gillis is forced to put him on waivers there's about a 0.00000001% chance that Florida doesn't take him.

I also think that if it gets to that, he starts looking very seriously at trading Schneider and mending fences with Lu.

They said they almost did that in the last 2 drafts. They thought gaunce and Jensen were going to go higher. If they were taken they were considering trading down.

I can't see it this year though. The draft is too deep. There's no way mike can't find a player he wants in the first round

That's not the question. The question is, can he get two players that are almost equally as good for that one good player.

Of course, it depends on who is left on the board after 23.

If there are 8-10 players the Canucks are still interested in then it would make sense to move down a few spots if another team really wants our pick to get their guy.

I expect that by the time we are picking teams' lists will be all over the map. There will be players ranked in the around 20 for some teams that will be down around 40 for others. It's a deep draft through 50.
