Bodee
I have been a Luongo fan and wanted Schneider traded for a LONG time now, but MG got absolutely fleeced on this. Yes, one goalie had to go, and MG had to get the biggest return possible. MG really had his hands tied with this, just like the Hodgson problem, but this time it was his fault. Schneider should have been traded a long time ago. Lou is known for making good trades and he burned the Canucks on this one. Obviously Edmonton were offering more but MG cannot trade within the division so ignore that offer. Realistically, we should have gotten a 1st rounder and a current NHL player. At least Hedberg to back up Luongo. This is a classic case of a veteran GM burning a rookie. With an asset like Schneider, we should have at least 1 NHL star to add to our mix, instead we've got an 18 year old who won't see NHL action for at least a season. That being said, this is a great playoff trade. Luongo is the hardened veteran, playoff monster and big-time performer who will most likely play for Canada again. Schneider is the kid with a whopping 1 playoff victory and not much big-game experience. Now we bring in arguably the most clutch forward in the draft who's also a defensive specialist (something the final 3 teams this playoffs had in common) and a Cup-winning, defensive coach. MG may look bad after this move, but he's turned his attention to winning in the playoffs which is what we need. You don't win playoff series with 2 great goalies, you win them with good coaching, young forwards, defensive forwards, playoff-experienced goalies and clutch performers. Batmania
I'm curious to see on what the general opinion of the Canuck fan base is. I've seen scattered comments throughout the boards. Some love the acquisition of Bo Horvat. Some are loathing losing last years starting goalie. Let's see what the poll says. My take? Once again the Canucks get hemmed into making a decision that they MAY regret, but salvage by acquiring a nice POTENTIAL piece for the future. It all starts from handing Luongo a insane contract, making him unmovable. Perhaps a earlier transaction of Luongo or Schneider would of net a better return. To break it down: - No one wants Luongo - Acquillini won't buyout Luongo - Waiving him would be impractical. Thus trading Schneider was the only choice. pimpcurtly
Let's revisit your mind in a year's time. I suspect you have overrated CS, as many on here have.
mrhopeless
"Acquillini won't buyout Luongo Waiving him would be impractical." Thus trading Schneider was the only choice. - how do you know A. wouldn't buy out Luongo? - why was waiving him ''impractical'' as you say? - trading S. was Not the only choice. (I don't recall a single person, before this fiasco happened, saying trading S. was the only choice. - all this happened because Gillis is a buffoon has doesn't have a clue what he's doing. As with CH he didn't get nearly as much as he should have. This gives the clear impression of being (again) a spur of the moment decision.

WestCoastDave
I voted no. If Anaheim was able to fetch Silverberg, Noesen and a 1st round pick for their star forward in Bobby Ryan, surely we could have gotten more than a 1st rounder for a star goalie in Corey Schneider.
