SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
One note re: the small sample for faceoffs: If you look at Santorelli's faceoffs chart for 2012-13 (I use the Tabita site: http://stats.tabita.org/faceoffs/player/mike_santorelli), you see a season where he started at nearly 100% and then quickly dropped down to the 60% range. His numbers stayed quite stable at around 60% for the season (maybe bottomed out at about 55% and then rose slightly to finish the season). Many guys show much more fluctuation over a season (especially those with lower totals), with huge peaks and valleys on their charts. However, most of the better faceoff men have similarly stable charts to what we see for Santorelli (and just lock in at their winning percentage and maintain it through the season). Take all this for what you will. I'm not claiming it's a concrete indicator or anything. That said, for a guy whose game log shows his minutes going all over the place from game to game (from 6:07 to 17:14 TOI), was waived during the season, picked up by another team, and healthy scratched a few times along the way, having as stable a faceoff chart as he does is a very positive sign (that his numbers were not an anomaly and he has indeed improved his faceoff ability significantly). In the Slot
Presumably an Ebbett replacement, but hey... some competition at camp is good to see who shakes out where and who has chemistry. Still room for one of our young centres as Richardon and this guy play all forward positions. Four lines that can score and some really good PK units. As it stands... we have a pretty nice lineup, especially at forward. I don't see this being the way the roster ends up though. I suspect a trade before training camp. FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m) Nicklas Jensen ($0.863m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m) Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Brendan Gaunce ($1.057m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m) David Booth ($4.250m) / Mike Santorelli ($1.000m) / Brad Richardson ($1.150m) Tom Sestito ($0.750m) / DEFENSEMEN Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Chris Tanev ($1.750m) Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Yannick Weber ($0.650m) Frank Corrado ($0.599m) / GOALTENDERS Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) Joacim Eriksson ($0.925m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,447,778; BONUSES: $162,500 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,014,
-Vintage Canuck-
I really like this signing. He's also from Vancouver, BC! I still remember that one season he had, where he scored 41 points in 82 games.
Ghostsof1915
When he was recently let go by the Panthers this was how a Florida blogger described him. Santorelli -- who really can't even be described as "streaky" -- scored 20 goals playing mostly alongside David Booth in 2010-11, which says something about his consistency. He was dreadful (11 points in 60 games) the next year, as Booth was dealt to Vancouver while the rest of the club overachieved en route to a division title. The guy looked lost, continuing the spotty performances in most of his 23 appearances in 2013, though an early demotion to AHL San Antonio seemed to have helped his confidence in recent weeks. Good guy, hard worker, but in our experience he disappears for extended stretches. We wish his well in Winnipeg. So the interesting thing here is only successful period playing in the NHL was when he played on a line with Booth. I do find it curious that so far via free agency the Canucks have got all smallish players.

In the Slot
I like that both Santorelli and Richardson are versatile forwards who have some skill and possile offensive upside. I see them both as 3rd line tweeners, which would make them a nice depth 4th line offensive punch, and certainly with more potential than any 4th line in recent memory. sedin - sedin - kassian booth - schroeder - kesler (takes draws) higgins - gaunce - burrows richardson - santorelli - hansen

Steve Carell
We'll have him on the roster just for taking faceoffs alone, that's something our team last year really lacked. I could see him on the fourth line, with Richardson taking 3C.
