insomniac604 Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 1.5 is solid for a single year. Tanev has shown his offensive side in the AHL but is too timid in the NHL. Finally saw him on a few rushes last year. Hopefully he can step up and play top minutes. And people will stop saying he's worth the spot because he "makes a great first pass". A longer term would have meant a higher cap hit this year - if he'd signed for 1.3, 1.8, 2.2 or something like that, it would have had averaged out higher - whereas folks may complain that 1.5 in 100 or 200 k higher than they wanted, but it probably saves that over a longer term on this season's cap hit, when the crunch is most immediate.
