Kesler believes he is well suited for Tortorella's style
Ryan Kesler says he is healthy for the first time in two years, and believes that new head coach John Tortorella's style suits him well.

Speaking the NHL.com, Kesler said "I'm 100 percent" and "I feel like I haven't played in a couple of years" after missing 31 games for the Vancouver Canucks in 2013 due to a broken foot.

On the subject of Tortorella, Kesler recalled playing under him at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.

He was running the d-corps, but obviously he wants hard work, he wants execution and he wants no mistakes. That's basically what my game is all about. He wants you to compete and doesn't want anybody to take a game off, which I like. If we play that way, we have the skill on this team to do some good things.
Kesler scored 22 goals and 49 points in 77 games in 2011-12, and registered only four goals and nine assists during the injury-shortened 2013 season.

I have a good feeling he thrives under Torts and has a monster year similar to the one in 2010/2011!

Me too. Not sure why blocking shots are important in the reg season. Shouldn't be done u less you are on the cusp of making the playoffs or actually in it.

Practice all year with a style and then change it up completely when the playoffs come. It's really been effective for the Canucks in the past so we should keep on employing this strategy.

Kes and Edler performing at their best is the only way this team has a shot at accomplishing anything.

This is good to hear.

Id really love to see Horvat on Keslers LW. If Horvat really is a Bergeron/Richards type player, youd think that the combination of he and Kesler would be effective. Throw Burr on the right side, and you have a 2 way shutdown line that works hard each and every shift, reguardless of what zone theyre playing in. Just feel that this would be a perfect situation for Horvat to develop in.

I realize that he'd captain his jr team, whos hosting the memorial cup, and likely play for canada at the wjhc, but I really think that Horvat is just too much of a Torts type of player, and that his style of game and potential will be enough for them to keep Bo on the roster.

If we see:

Healthy Booth
Healthy Kesler
06-07 Luongo
11-12 Edler

Then we'll be fine. But the expectations for these guys are really high and I think they will perform better than they did last year if they stay healthy.

Agreed, a healthy second line and some secondary scoring and the Canucks go far.

I don't think 20-30 Goals for Booth is high expectations to be honest, he was quite capable of it on the Panthers and is now playing on a stronger team. Kesler as well should have expectations of 20-30 goals... You have to look at it this way, the Canucks placed 3rd in the west after a crippling season of injuries and are now at 100%.

The people who think that the Canucks will miss the play-offs are out of their mind... If anything the Kings will miss the play-offs in my opinion.

No. The Canucks aren't even in the same realm as these other teams. They aren't even close to being good enough to make the playoffs. They'll be off by around 10 points.

Because Tortorella is going to run the exact same system he did in New York, right?

I would like to see Kesler play like 60% of the PK time he has played in the past. If the Sedins are going to be playing PK time than I don't see this as an improbable scenario. PK time takes a lot out of you and less is better for Kes.

I think Kesler is the type of player any coach would like to have. People are talking like he can't take criticism as if he is Latrell Sprewell. He is a hockey player after all so he has some level of professionalism.

Bo shouldn't make the team . Gaunce is more ready than horvat and another year in the ohl and playing wj would do horvat well

He is obviously well suited for Torts style of play. They played in the Olympics together when Torts was head coach. They obviously have good chemistry. Can't wait till the Torts Era begins in in September. BELIEVE IN TORTS!!!!! GO CANUCKS GO!

I wouldn't say Bo shouldn't make the team. But it is unlikely since he hasn't had much, if any, experience playing against men. Same argument can be made for Gaunce.
